    Paintball accident

Well, I just got a call from my father-in-law, and it appears that we had a paintball related accident in the family today.

About an hour ago, a cousin (who had just got a new marker) shot himself in the eye. Point blank.

When I heard this, it about made me sick because I know what that probably means. However, I also believe in miracles, so I pray he will not lose his eye or sight.

Anyway, they rushed him to Iowa City hospital.

Does anyone know of someone else who has had a similar accident? How did it turn out?

      How old was he?

I have shot myself in the foot with my Angel plenty of times, but I couldn't imagine shooting myself in the eye with a Spyder or Tippy.

Hopefully his eye is will recover. When I was younger, we used to catch BB's in our eyes every once in the while. They'd get bloody, dilate, etc. After a week or so they'd be fine...

I don't know the specifics of how it happened.

He just graduated from highschool this past spring, so I wouldn't rule out horseplay/dorking around.

If it was due to negligence, man, what a hard way to learn.

Either way, this renews in me a desire to ALWAYS wear my mask. Even if I'm just in the back yard shooting out into a field all by myself.

Wow, that sux, I hope hes gonna be ok, mabe he didn't hit directly in the eye and got more of his face But anyways, I don't know how someone can get a marker that is like 2-3 feet long, turn it around, aim at their eye and pull the trigger backwards? I have shot myself in the eye before but it was from the back of my cocker, and it was a half chopped ball, so I was aight...
You smell like dookie... No really though.

oh man, my sympathy for the guy, I am way sorry to hear that man!

Trust me, I know how it can happen...

The VERY first day I got my automag ( I knew like absolutely nothing about paintball) and was messing around with it in my backyard. I had a mask on, but I think maybe it short stroked or had shootdown...in any case, I was clueless, so what did I do? Possibly one of the stupidest things ever, I take off my mask, and look down the barrel to see if I can 'see' anything wrong. As soon as I do that, it all of the sudden came to me, "dude, the barrel is pointed right at your freaking eye!" and I immediately pointed it away and threw my mask back on, and was almost sick from thinking about what could have happened. These are stupid mistakes, but very easy to make when your not thinking. I've come a long was since then.

Now, having your mag disassembled on the table is another story...no one EVER expects the on/off to fly right past your face In any case, its not such a bad idea to wear saftey glasses when taking apart the markers either

I'm sorry to hear what happened to your cousin. I hope the best for him, and that he's ok.

I've heard of cases going both ways, for the worst and best. My local field manager was shot in the eye by a customer. The customer walked in without a barrel plug on his gun, paint in it, and air up and asked if he could fix his gun and then at point blank pulled the trigger and it shot the field owner (or so the story goes, may be a little different, but he was shot in the eye). It wasn't the best for him, and sad to say he lost sight in that eye. He still has the eye, but I believe he lost all sight in the eye. This was years ago, so the technology and surgery in the medical field may be better for this kind of thing, and if he got there soon enough the better. I hope your cousin's sight is ok and that everything works out for the best for him in the end.

My cousin's friend was also shot in the eye. From what I was told, it sounds like he either lost his eye or he is just blind in that one eye. Anyway. Best of luck to him.

saw something like this on pbnation a year or so ago. A kid had his angel between his knees and was cleaning the barrel in his back yard. popped him in the eye, he had pics it was nasty looking but like irbodden said the swelling went down after a week or teo and i beleive he was fine. Looked similar to when a boxer gets tagged good and they're eye gets all bloody...

When I was 18 I made the mistake of removing my mask before making sure everyone in the field knew the game was over. It was a private game we were playing on my dad's property. My brother in law sees me and pops off a few rounds thinking the game is still over, and I got one right in the right eye. He was about 100 feet away. It hurt like a b$#@%! My eye swelled up and I couldn't open it for about a week. I thought that I would be blind in that eye, but thank God, till this day 10 years later that eye doesn't have any problems. I know my accident wasn't as severe as his, being close range, but let's just hope for the best.
