i know this isnt anyway the same but last weekend when a couple guys at our field was putting on his barrel condom he put his finger in his barrel for some reason and his gun went off... there was also someone in my community that got shot in the eye but from what i hear it didnt break it just bounced off his eye and he had some sort of operation to regain partal sight in his eye.

Well, I have an update about the situation.

As for how it happened, his gun "jammed". Not sure exactly what that means, but in order to fix it, he removed his hopper and claims the safety was on. What he didn't know, and this is from inexperience, is that there is a ball still chambered. So that is how the elements came together for him to shoot himself.

As for a medical update, this is an excerpt from an email his parents sent from the hospital:

      #### did split his eyeball (orb); they don't and won't know the extent of the damage until they have him in the OR to take a look at it. His eyelid is also split but there is so much blood that they can't get an adequate assessment but the general agreement is that this is a very bad injury.

Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers and concern.

man, that is the roughest way to learn a lesson. I hope everything turns out well. I think at this point, what he/you/family should be hoping for is at least limited vision from that eye. It doesnt sound like, and I wouldnt expect a full vision recovery from such an injury.

not that it matters, but what type of marker was it, was it new out of the box, had it recently been over the chrony?

I, myself have almost had the same happen when i was new i was just messing around and there was a break in the barrel and I started to tilt the barrel up so I could look down it and then i realized what might happen and i just immediately threw my gun down and shivered at the thought of what might have happened

that really sux man, hope he will get his vision back.

btw, what kind of marker was he shooting? my friend, blazestorm, was playing with my friends imp one round. he thought that he turned the marker off when he actually didnt. he held the marker by the foregrip and the marker shot him under the mask. he was ok but very stunned my the experience.

Thanks again to everyone for all your concern.

The last I heard, he was back home with his eye stitched up and patched. The ultrasound showed that the retina is at least partly detatched. However, there is too much blood in the area to tell. Because of this, he is home resting and healing. He will need to go back in to get another exam/prognosis.

In the meantime, I am told that he is also keeping his good eye closed as much as possible. I guess it is not uncommon for people who lose one eye to actually lose vision in BOTH! The one good eye "sympathizes" with the damaged one and boom, lights out.

As for what kind of marker he was using, I'm not sure. I know he was just getting into pb, and this was his first marker. I'm thinking mechanical blow-back semi, ie spyder, BE, pirahna, etc. He claims the safety was on, but there are so many factors that could change that when you are handling a marker and trying to fix it. I could se how he could inadvertently disengage the safety. Who knows. I believe that he is done with the sport.

If his retina is only detached, he should still have *some* vision. Primarily, periphreal, & little straight-on vision... Aint the greatest thing in the world, but atleast he's still got his eye.
