Once again I call on the photoshop gods ...

I am stumped at this one ... how can I do a two color fade on text?

I am wanting to fade the lettering on the team jersey from one color to another and for the life of me cannot figure this one out.

So for example ... doing a fade of blue on the bottom to black on the top of the letter/number.

    Thanks,

You have to rasterize the text before you can add effects to them.

Big'N Slo ... close, only each letter would fade blue on bottom to back on top ...

I was figuring that I would have to do each letter itself then group them together once they were faded.

You should be able to type your whole string, then rasterize the text. After that, you should be able to modify it any way you'd like.

Sounds kewl ... I was playing around with PS7 last night working on new jersey layouts, and was using rasterize and stroke to outlne the text in white ... didnt notice the gradiant fill ...

Thanks for the point in the right direction.

No problem, I'm still learning something new everytime I open PS7.

I was used to gimp, but my *nix box died on me last month and I have gotten around to rebuilding it ...

In gimp they have the gradiant fill which you just pick colors for the fill and the click and drag the direction you want the fill to go ...

PS7 is nice thats for sure.

Don't rasterize your text, just apply a gradiant overlay to the layer. You can select the exact overlay you want, the direction, and opacity. You can do tons of things that will scale with the text, and allow later edits, without ever rasterizing the text.

In photoshop 7, you can add visual effects to individual layers. When you type a string of text, it becomes its own layer, allowing you to apply any number of effects, like color overlays, pattern overlays, emboss or beveling, and even gradient overlays.

I've attatched pics of my sig for examples:

Sweet ... I didnt see that gradient overlay ... I usually use that screen for drop shadow and controlling the transparency (spelling?) of text and such ... guess I never looked that far down LOL
