    Caller ID gripe

    Ever have this conversation:

"Hello?" "You called me, who is this?" "Who are you?" "Well who are you, you called me." "I don't know who you are and I don't think I called you." "I have you on my Caller-ID." "Then it must have been the wrong number." "Well, maybe someone else in your house called." "I'm the only one here." "Are you sure?" "Yes I'm sure." "Oh, ok. I guess it was a wrong number then."

Annoying. Some people should not have Caller-ID.

Yes I have had that happen, but you see caller ID can be fun, because if its those people that try and sell you stuff over the phone, you can pick up the phone and yell at them and stuff, thats always fun.

If I don't fully understand the phone conversation in the first 5 seconds, someone has failed their phone duties, and I immediately hang up.

I've never had that conversation, but people have tried.

Happens every now and then. Just the other day someone called me thinking I was Hardees and called me a liar when I told them I wasn't....

Caller ID is a great tool though. Especially when you have certian people you don't want to talk to but they decide to call your house 300 times a day .

I used to mess with telemarketers. It was fun, yet they got annoying. In Wisconsin, we could sign a bill or petition with our name and phone #, and it forbid phone salesmen from calling. So far it has worked very well.

One question....Does anyone ever buy stuff from them?

if you pick up and yell at them it still does no good because at most call centers your phonenumber will be logged as one that answered and then even more telemarketers will likely call.

i never have nor anyone else in my family but they do it because the elderly most oftenly buy things from them because they are lonely, polite(dont hang up on them so they hear the pitch and get caught up in it or whatever), etc.

also dont yell at them how would you like to be the one that goes to a bar and tells a chick im a telemarketer then gets beaten up by some guy named saul? and then goto work and get yelled at for doing their job?

I've had that happen a couple of times to me, and it is real annoying, especially when they call back a second time because they think they got the number wrong the first time.

You can enter a key sequence during the dialing process that sends a different phone number to the caller ID terminal, and it doesn't require a "phreak" box. Although most incidents of false number reporting from a caller ID terminal result from switching problems in your neighborhood.

Although I don't think it's nearly as bad as when someone purposefully dials your phone, and when you answer, "Hello?" They respond with "Who is this?" I'm like, "You called me! Who the heck are you?!" Some people have zero phone etiquette skills.

heh. i've done that once. i was hoping it was someone that i knew. although i explained why i was calling before asking who i was talking to. and of course i apologized when it turned out i didn't know them.

on a related note i get an awful lot of wrong phone calls on my cell phone. mostly from indian guys asking for some girl. very strange.
