need some photoshop assistance

generally, I can operate photoshop pretty well. one thing I havent quite mastered yet is all the masking and pen-type and brush type things involved in making a fade on an object.

with that said, picture below.. want to see a burgandy to black fade, also black to burgandy. if possible, include barrel. drop doesnt matter much.

Get a new rug.....that thing is ugly.

open it in photoshop, select the gun, and change the hue or whatever so that the gun is a lighter grey (that way it will be easier to do the fade). then make a new layer and delete everything except what you want the fade to be applied to. then lock transparent pixels and then apply your fade. then duplicate the layer that is the fade and put one on multiply and the other on either hard or soft light (whichever looks best). then just change the opacity to what looks best (usually around 75%).
