I love my Windows 98. I'm immune to it.

it is a DCOM/RPC issue, I don't think you ar "immune", it is just such an obsolete OS, that MS is not acknowledging it (same with Win95 and Milen.)
- just my geek-opinion.

i don't think that win98 has the capability that the worm needs to gain access to your computer. only NT based OSes are vulnerable.
will - you can get XP to work like 98. you just have to change a few settings. microsoft realizes that not everybody likes the bubbly bright look. so they made the old style available to XP users. probably won't help you at school since if your admins are anywhere near competent they've disabled it but you should consider getting XP if your system has enough memory and disk space to handle it.

i think there was some kind of documentation or something. part of it had a message that said something like "why do you keep making things like this possible billy gates?" it's attacking the windows update servers today and going on constantly through december. then after that every 16th day of the month. i finally figured out people are saying yesterday because the virus uses local time. it triggers at midnight going into the 16th so some time zones will begin the attack the evening of the 15th.
ADDED: just checked a few tech sites. they say the microsoft update page is still up. they simply took down the page that was being targeted by the worm. that page was only a redirect anyway.Last edited by MantisMag; 08-16-2003, 10:59 AM.
