    Anyone ever learn Arabic?

Well it seems to get a bachlors degree in arts (History) I have to posses an intermediate level in a language (202 or above). Since I figure on being an officer in the Marine Corps I figured on Arabic (I mean can anyone see us attacking a Spanish speaking country in the next ten years?)

So I wanted to know, before I try and switch classes how difficult it would be. I've never taken a language before so I'm kind of in uncharted territory.

P.S. This has nothing to do with my other thread. Those of you who are clueless: pay attention. it'll make sense in the next couple of days.

Arabic is one tough language to learn, especially to write. I took a semester of it in college, and due to an unfortunate incident it didn't go well.

I was the only non-fluent person in the class, so the prefessor told me that he just wasn't really up to teaching the class, and he would pass me for both semesters if I just came to class and tried to listen and get involved in their conversation (he decided to do more of a current affairs in the middle east kind of class). That was ok with me, because the Middle East interests me and I know alot about it, so I got to participate in the discussions with a different perspective then everyone else in the room.

Then the professor had a stroke, right there in the classroom. The replaced the professor with some other guy (the professor lived, in case ya'll were wondering). This guy did not want to honor my agreement.

For the midterm I basically told him if the test covered anything more comprehensive then the letter A (which is Alif) then he might as well not give it to me.
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - Tyger

SO what your saying is that its probably not the best language to try and pick up?

The thing that might sperate me from your situation is that if your fluent in a language other than english then you can test out of it. you have to possess intermediate level skill, not actually take the credits.

      Anyone else?

It is a tough language to learn. I'm not saying you won't be able to, but any of the European language will be easier. They all follow the same basic rules, since they are derived from the same place.
