I just reinstalled winxp and when I ran update it made a bunch of folders on my D: drive with random names, so is it alright to delete them? Also, is there a way to run update other then then when the icon comes into your task bar?

Do the folders have anything in them? if yes and you need the contents then no you can't, if you saved the updates to them and then installed the files from those folders then yes you can delete them as the update files are now on your c drive. If you look in add/remove you will see all the upgrades listed and the location is the c drive regardless of where you originally saved them before installing. It is a good idea if your d drive is a large one to save all the upgrades in one folder as each will have a self extracting install file associciated with each upgrade that way if you reinstall XP on your c drive you will already have most of the needed upgrades without having to download them again. Why the upgrade site would make folders on your d drive is strange to say the least unless you chose to do that, windows isn't that clever.Comment
