Boot the machine off the OS CD. They usually include an option to format the drive in the setup. I know they do for XP and Win2K

thanks! the way i got it to boot from the OS cd was to change the settings in BIOS. is there another way? do you hold down control while it's booting or something to boot from cd? i forget...not that changing BIOS is too much work...i'm just curious.

Nope. Gotta tell the BIOS where to boot from.

          They're right... the BIOS says

          A:\
          CDROM
          C:\
          Network

or whatever ... that goes through its checks before you even get a chance to do much.

You can also use PARTITION MAGIC to format drives... but its your funeral if ya mess it up ..lol.. I have actually been one of the lucky ones to get it to work
