    Way off Topic

Does anyone know how long to keep a turkey in the oven. This will be my family's first thanksgiving here in the United States and I was hoping to cook a nice Turkey Dinner for them. It's all seasoned and marinated and stuff but I have no idea how long to cook it for. Would anyone or their moms know? It's a 28lb. Turkey.

    Thanks,

    Don

well my wife's cook book does'nt go that high but a 24 pound turkey takes about 4-5 hours. Basically if you have a good meat thermometer the core temp of the turkey needs to read 185 degrees. If you have stuffing in the turkey it takes a little longer and the stuffing needs to read 165 degrees. Good luck! I'll be hosting Thanksgiving for my first time, too.

Thanks for your help guys. Wish me luck. I'd hate to have a half cooked bird or one that's blackened and smouldering. Happy Thanksgiving All!

Accepted cook time is 20 minutes per pound of bird.

            28 x 20 = 560/60 = 9.3 hours

Thanks for the info guys. I found out that my wife was incorrect and the actual weight of the turkey was only 19 pounds. So with Army's computation, it would be about 6.33 hours or so. Anyway, I'd just like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. I'll take pics of the turkey after I burn it.

                      Well...

I kinda left it in a little longer than I should have. Something I will remember the next time. It was a bit dry but not burnt at all. It also wasn't too pretty to look at. But it tasted very good and my family loved it... course with nothing else to go by, it was great. Since there are only four of us, I have a feeling it's gonna be turkey sandwiches for quite a while.
