    Installing AMPs into an SUV/Car

Alright, I am planning on getting a blazer when I get my liscence and I hate stock systems, so does anyone know where/how to install amp systems? If you know a site that could help me on this, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

Find someone thats really into cars at your school they will know and will do it for cheap. If you want a pro to do it take it to best buy, good work but they charged on of my friends 80 dollars just to install a deck. (CD player)

i put in an amp, crosover, capacitor, 2 8" subs, door speakers, mids and tweeters in my truck all in about 4 hours. the thing that took the longest was making the boxes to hold everything in my regular cab toyota. but it was really quite easy.

i didnt put in a new deck for two reasons. theft deterant(its a pioneer knob deck, its old) and the elements. i have half doors which leave the truck exposed, and i dont care about that deck.

installing a system is a lot easier than it looks, but just remember one thing, watts mean nothing when it comes to subs. it is all about the design of the box. i know guys who can get 120+ dB's at under 35hz with only 50 watts and a single 10. so if you plan on subs, dont just go with big wattage, big money stuff. talk to a couple car audio speciallists, not best buy.

ive been fixing up my trucks system lately. It is a money whole once you get started let me tell you. Here is what happened to me:

everything is cool it came with the truck. 2 stock rear speakers, 2 aftermarket big front speakers, 2 tweaters, a 12 inch sub, and a nice deck

            1. I blew the sub, and had to replace it 80$
            2. I blew the second sub the next day and replaced it with an even better one- 100$
            3. I blew the thrid sub but the guy felt bad for me and replaced it for free.
            4. The buttons stop working on my deck, replaced the deack, the guy who now knows me very well cut me a deal, 140$ for a new deck.
            5. He talked me into rear speakers to replace my stock ones. -100$
            6. Driving home my fuse blew, went back and they told me it was the amp, and had been my amp the whole time, the amp was the source of my problems. So I replaced tha effin amp. 150$ ( again I got a deal)
            7. On my way home I blew another fuse. I go back they told me the amp must have also screwed up my wires which they will fix for free when i have time to go back. So now I wait to go back so they can rewire the whole system.

Grand total- 570$ and he did not put the fuse back in yet so as of right now I dont even have a system that plays. I have the 2 back speakers powered by the deck. wow

BY THE WAY: Now im thinking mayb there was a wire problem the whole time and my amp did not need to be replaced. So I have this amp sitting here is there any way to tell if it is bad for sure or not?

Stereo installation is fairly simple, just make sure all your connections are secure (especially the ground) and make sure your components match, not by brand, but things like rms, range, and volume (space inside sub boxes). Crutchfield gives good directions, as wells as free connectors to match your speakers to the car. Also, make sure your amp has breathing room, heat is the enemy.

Alright guys thanks, when I get the car, I am still deciding between a blazer or a yukon or something along that line of SUV my only car choice is a 330ci coupe or a 325i coupe. But the Yukon is v8 and that means 4 grand a year of insurance.

I think it will the yukon, because if I buy one used, the insurance money goes down like 3/4.

I was looking at this expedition, looks pretty pimp...

                        Nope.

Im still trying to decide what to get. I am going to buy the car used, so in the insurance is less, I work, have enough.

I like the way 99% of car threads turn into 'your mommys buying that for you' threads. Like for some reason even if his mommy was buying it for him it would affect anyone elses life.

Cause unlike 5 years ago when I bought my first car I was looking in the 2000-6000$ price range and all these threads are in the 10000-60000$ price range. Kinda makes sens right?

His car shouldn't affect you though. His mom could buy him a Ferrari Enzo and it would have no impact on your life.

Considering his mom isn't buying it, it doesn't matter anyway.
