Cool, I've always wanted my own big Dobsonian, ever since Sarah and I went to AstroCamp when she was in 5th grade.

They aren't too expensive to make yourself either, only the primary mirror is the biggest cost.......hmmm.........

very nice job man... completely done on your own? i always sucked at working with wood like that, but i can do very good stuff with metal :). (in the process of making 2 mini choppers, ill throw pics up in about a month when they are done). Once again, great job man.

The only thing I farm out on my scope is the welding on the mirror cells. Everything else is done in house.

Army, yep the optics really drive the cost of these big dobs, easily half to two thirds the cost of materials. The rest of it does add up but it's the glass that costs.
