    AP US History

Is anyone taking (or has taken) AP US History? The passing rate is like 51% in the country, and I know why now. I've been to maybe 4 classes and I've got more information than I learned in a month last year. And unlike other schools, its all condensed into one year instead of two. Even though, my school still maintains around a 89% passing record, which is great... but not, cause that means it is especially hard for me.

AP US Historians unite! Lets make this a thread with questions or tips or ANYTHING! This class is seriously cutting into my AO time as well

I was going to take AP US last year, but that summer assignment deal turned me off. I did go out to Pizza Hut Buffet with the AP kids after they took the exam though, their teacher paid for everyone. It's a very time-consuming course, but everyone I know did well on the AP.

I took it last year and yes, it was hard. But it was worth it. I got a 4 on my Exam btw.

I'm taking it this year, so I might be asking for help before too long. I am also taking AP English and you know what sucks? Some colleges won't take 3's anymore, and English isn't my strong subject.

I passed it 7 years ago... and don't remember a damn thing.

You basically have to know a crap load of information... and know how to write essays so you get the points you need. I dunno if they use the AP Blue Book anymore, but memorize that thing. And then, memorize more stuff in your regular history book.

I think I studied more for that class than any other I've ever taken in my life. But you know what, the AP credit I got was entirely useless for me. It did nothing to satisfy any of my college requirements... and I never used it.

                Here's another idea:
Don't take the AP at all. If you really want that credit, use that money for a community college course in history while in high school instead (if you even need to for what college you end up in)... it's the same thing and is WAY less work. Have fun in high school... don't study too hard if you don't have to.

GPA boost is meaningless to almsot any college. They'll convert it back to a 4.0 scale.

Just take post secondary (i.e. go to college while your in high school).

I got 4 LERs out of the way my senior year.

Man, I'm taking it this year as well. First AP class I've ever taken, and I can tell it's going to be tough (already got more homework from that class than any other).

I took it more then 10 years ago and loved it. History was my minor at UMD.

Enjoy the class and look at it as a huge story unfolding before your eyes. MD accepted all of my AP credits so it was well worth it.

Check with the Colleges you are interested in to see if they will accept them. If not, you will still learn so much trivia that you will rule at Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit!

GPA boost, 0.5 increase to your final grade for that class at the end of the year. It is based on 4.0 scale... quite a little help. If you do well in a lot of AP classes its even possible to go over 4

Our first test is coming up, first five chapters and a bunch of other side readings and a map. Its going to be so hard... I think im going to cry. I might have to study for once... in my life... a lot...
