I took it a while back. I got an A in the class, but I choked on the AP test and only got a 2. The DBQ is what killed me, I think...

I just recently took American history to 1871 in college, and I was amazed at how similar AP history and College history were structured. AP history IS what you will learn in college. The material is there, and it won't change every year like Computers, history stays history...

      falcon,
what hes saying is that even though YOUR school may give you a boost in GPA for an honors, IB, or AP class, most COLLEGES (who get your full transcript) will take that transcript and put it back on an unweighted 4.0 GPA. they may weight it based on school depending on the college and how close it is to your school.

I took AP US. AP classes are fine. Dont worry bout it. its a lotta reading and a lotta memorization for the mult choice, but the essay is definitly BSable. I got a 5 and didnt even know much....

Man, clemson didn't even give me a grade for AP classes, they just give credit for having taken them. Although it does put me a semester ahead, which is nice.

And if you think AP classes are hard, wait till college. You haven't seen nothing yet. I took 4 APs my senior year, did almost no work, got 5s on all the exams and As in the courses. Got to college and did 10x the work, and got a 3.0.

I, too, sadly, am taking AP US history (grr, not the same teacher as falconguy though ).
But I think I'll be able to BS some stuff pretty well. For example: I didn't do ANY of the summer reading, and got a 58 outta 60 on the summer reading assignment.

Yeah we're at about the Salem witch trials part too... probly cuz we started school later than most people (September 2nd).

I got a 4 on this, however many years ago that was... Heh, to be in high school again... Here's some good hints.

Look at as many old tests for essay questions as possible. Your teacher (if they have half a brain) should have been making copies of the old tests. Go back as far at 10 years on them.

Know the format of the test too. When I took it, there was 1 DBQ which gave you alot of pictures. (Man that sucked!) Then there were a couple of other essays on pretty much standard topics that you should be covering.

The key is, that if you study the old tests as much as possible you should have enough information combined with what you learned in the normal classes to put together at least a sensible set of essays.

Key topics to work into a good many of the essay topics: (Manifest Destiny, Divine Right of Kings, the Monroe Doctrine, Foundational underpinnings of the US Government [ie- views of the Founding Fathers])

More focused topics: Suffrage, States Rights vs. Federal Rights, etc...

Of course use good writing format and style when you write the essay. [Ie- a good intro about what you are going to talk about and your premise, followed by the body, then in conclusion tell them what you just said with some reasoning why]

And again, if your teacher has half a brain, you will be doing alot of outside reading and writing of essays to get you prepared for the typical type of questions and what format you should be using to respond. These are good review material when it comes time to take the test.

And Miscue, you can't argue with only 75 bucks (at least that's how much it was when I took the AP) vs. paying decidedly more at Community College. Not that, that is a bad idea, either.

I'm not under the alkafluence of inkahol that some thinkle peep I am. It's just the drunker I sit here the longer I get...

Generally in an it goes GPA, Class Rank, SAT / ACT, when a college is looking at you. I may be misunderstaind you though.

w00t, AP US History students representin! Crap.. I gotta go finish my outline.

Does the system work the same, or similar in every state? Like for my APUSH class, we have outlines due every Monday, we have a syllabus for the entire year (keeps us nice and busy during the week), and a unit test every 2 weeks. This class is torture.. and I have it first period, the time where I have no idea whats going on and I am completley **** faced

Add to that AP I & II English and AP Physics C.

Taking those classes makes the first year of college feel like Sophomore year of HS. Can't say that about senior year of college, though.

I took AP US history about 6 years ago, got a 3 on the test, and my college (UC santa barbara) accepted it and it waived my american institutions requirement. So basically i got out of taking two college courses on american history. I think it was worth it. I do remember how much i had to study and how much i hated the class at the time, but it will go by fast.

I took AP calculus too, if you are going to do any sort of economics, engineering, computer science, physics, or math type majors in college you should take it, it really gets you prepared for a college level math course.
