      Wrong. They do not want to charge you to play CS. Steam is a content delivery and authentication system. While new games could be based on a monthly subscription system, Valve has debunked this "they will charge you for CS" myth many times. With a CD key for HL/CS/Dod you will be able to activate the game via Steam and play with no monthly subscription fees ever.

      Basicly I think Valve wants to get the Steam system tested and more content servers in place so they can offer HL2 over it.

      IMHO Steam is a good thing. I'm still up in the air about the CS 1.6 changes. In fact I have offered up one of my game servers to be a content server for my ISP's customers. It will be very nice to have a local cache of that content.
