i had a DVD-R and couldnt find one dvd player it didnt play in.

sold that for a Sony DRU-500AX
      its a DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W
that way which ever format they decide im covered

also keep in mind DVD+R discs are a bit more $$ then -R

Just buy a DVD burner with the 2 modes...

My favorite is the Pioneer DVR-A06U (DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW CD+R CD+RW) it really owns ANY other for DVD burning, not the fastest cd wise though but who cares about cds anymore (jk )...

My beef with the Sony DRU-500AX is that with the supplied software it's really slow... If you want to shell out extra buck for Roxio's software then the Sony might be faster.
bla bla bla, does anyone read this anyway ?

never even used the software that came with it except
            powerDVD for watching them

            for all my "Backup" copies
            i use http://www.dvdxcopy.com/products_dxcx.asp

its an awesome program. compresses entire dvd to one disk with all the extras with no visual problems and best of all it only takes you two clicks to do it.

put disk in click copy/ put blank in and click again

I have had alsmot no luck with DVD Xcopy, I have a 4gb disk that it refuses to put onto one disk. I have a movie that shoudl fit no problems and it wont do it.

I have another that is "too big" for one disk so it say it can put the dvd on one disk but minus the "special features"

You know what those special features are ? 3/4 of the damn movie !

Mine is going back, and I am going to try something else.

                lol thats funny

                i have been using dvdxcopy
since a week after it was released and havnt burnt one coaster yet. lucky i guess.

also since i bought it so early i got dvdxpress and
                dvdplatinum free

i use dvdxpress the most since it compresses the whole movie to one disk.

                what do you use now?
