    Behold, the power of Cheese...

No names mentioned, but the individual who's responsible for this infamy knows who they are, and they can kiss my hairy butt...thanks for nothing, lowlife!

This is what remains of a web server that a former friend built for another friend of mine. This individual was given several hundred dollars to build a high performance webserver that was to be located in a NOC on the east coast. That he did, but he did so poorly. The unit, which had an AMD 1700+ processor, was powered by a 250 watt power supply, which from what I understand is inadequate for the job at hand. A year or so later, the fan in the power supply failed (the only fan for cooling of any type in this unit) which led to the power supply burning up and the resulting power spikes taking out the motherboard, RAM, and corrupting the HD. The MoBo, RAM, and HD were state of the art at the time, but the case was used and abused, in addition to being a cheaply made and poorly constructed model, and the included powersupply was inadequate. We hypothesize that the unit lasted as long as it did because of the air conditioning system at the NOC. My friend was embarrassed when he opened the box contaning this half baked abortion, because his websites were contained on it, and he was enraged and mortified that this piece of trash was associated with him.

If nothing else, it's chalked up to a lesson learned, and it's served as a guide to me for what NOT to do if I were to ever build a box for serving a website and co-locating it. As for the person who did this, I will never mention his name publically...but he knows who he is, and he knows that he's a thief in addition to being incompetent.

Yeah... if you are going to spend the cash to colocate a server...save yourself the cash and spend the 3 to 6 grand and have an honust to god low end web SERVER built. What you had there was a PC.... which in the long run of things is not what you want to be serving a profesional web site off of.

If you need a second opinion or whatever on your next go round on this lemme know, I'd gladly take a peek at whatever you are planning.

Something like this would proboly be ideal... and no windows
Sig image must be under 20k
