I figured out that everything if I get all the labor done between myself and my friend should run about 12k, and I know it will always end up costing more that one thinks, so I figure about 18k just to be safe and not get stuck with a halfway built car and no money to finish it.
I was thinking that I would start out just puting in a t56 transmission, then doing the rear, maybie with the 3.73, the doing the motor, then switching to 4.10 and seeing which I like better. This way it woudln't seem so expensive if I was building it over a few years and it was still drivable the whole time.
I don't really want to be completely 1/4 mile oriented I was somthing that I can drive on the streets, around town and to and from the track. I also might want to do auto cross with it. But that would require differant things than what I have listed.

True rob, I was thinking about going with the 3.73 while it is still a daily driver, then when its retired to a weekend/track car putting in the 4.10's.

might as well do a complete LS/LT1 swap. There's a 90' Z28 running around here with an LS1 and 6 speed tranny out of a 99' Firebird. He said he got the complete setup, including the computer, acessories, and wiring harness, for $3200.

Lemme get this straight, you want to put lower gears in, AND drive the car during the winter? Good luck to you my friend.

Zumina, i'm a moron give me anything I will drive it through the snow. I would try offroading in my camaro if I didn't actually want to keep this one. God, when I had my grand cherokee there was this really really huge pile of woodchips behind my house :) There was also this big hole full of sand and mud when it rained it would get about 2ft of water in it :) I was driving around my old camaro through 4in of snow last winter on unplowed streets, it was just me and some plow trucks.

It's funny you should mention off roading in an F. Every year a neighboring town here in Utah holds a charity rally. The classes are wide open but the even has two stipulations (aside from the obvious safety regulations), the car must be at least 15 years old and originate from a local wrecking yard. Last year (the first time I've seen the event) there were a host of 80s camaros and firebirds, several old school Datsun/Nissan 200/240/280/300s, a few 1st gen RX7s, and an assortment of other relics. The Fs all spun like mad around every corner and even some of the straights, if they even made it of a corner. Several rolled and a one even went hardcore into a "gully". The car with the best time, believe it or not, was a 77 200SX All and all, some great hill billy fun.
