Also, in the earlier times, the land switched so often between ethnicities because it was not easy to defend. There were no natural barriers around the earlier settlements around the Fertile Crescent and Mesopatamia, and that made it prone to attack.

Another key factor is that people and civilization have been there for far longer than most places. The Jews and the Palistinians (and the Sumaritans, etc.) have both been there for such a long time that they both have pretty legitimate claims to the land.

Also, the area has a very valuable natural resource. Nobody wants to rule Chad out of greed. The value of the oil attracts greedy leaders as well as patriots.

            Dude, that is so ignorant.

First, we used percision munitions. We hardly did any damage to the country, albiet we certainly did some. Primarily we destroyed military installations and forces.

Second, our buddies the Baathists destroyed as much stuff as they could get their hands on as they were leaving in an effort to make things harder on us to to try to blame us for the damage.

Third, Iraq wasn't exactly a thriving metroplis of sophistication before we got there. Most of the damage we're trying to fix now is pre-war damage, as in caused not by us. It's not enough to liberate the people from the rule of the dictator, they also need to be freed of the consequnces his rule inflicted on them.
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - Tyger

In the bible it says that there will not be peace in the middle east until the second coming of Jesus.

Just something I find intresting, not trying to turn this into some religion debate. Just a fact I found intresting.

I'm really, really suprised that no one has said this yet, but OIL!!! That is the reason(besides terrorism) the western world must be involved with the middle east. NPw I'm not saying that it's the one and only reason we went to war again, but it's a really big one, one that the media has downplayed.

Demobilized, that is very interesting, and although I'm not particularly religious, it often seems that the peace process is up against some kind of higher power. Of course, that higher power may turn out to be hate and greed.

this place is a hell hole... and im about a mile away from the tigress, in the fertile area.
heh, the prewar damage? there was nothing here. they live in mud huts. these people work for US for 5 bucks a day. and are happy with that.
But, it is some of the most beautiful countryside ive ever seen... i went up in a blackhawk yesterday and they took us around the place im at and dang, it looks like national geographic, with guns.
i know i didnt help any. but meh. i just feel like typing.

Wow they make more then I thought they did. I mean the average Russian makes 40 dollars a month. I thought the poorer pop would be less then that in Russia.

I wouldn't judge the country off of your impression of them from your life in the US. Two very different cultures, with two very different aspects to life.

Well, that whole area has been know from trouble from the start.

The REAL trouble started with my man Mohammed. This guy claimed an angel Gabriel came down and preached to him and said to spread gods word and whatever. So Mo sets out, goes to Mecca, and starts preachin about what happened. Everyone there is like "booooo you suck! Monotheism SUCKS! PRAY TO THE IDLES". So Mo is like "eff you guys, im leavin" and goes to Medina. While in Medina, everyone starts diggin Mohammeds stuff. And soon after, all Bedouins start to follow Mohammed, and his word starts spreadin like hot cakes throughout the land. From there the concept of "Jihad" was concieved. Now, as you all know, Jihad is...."Holy War". What is said is if you are not part of "The House of Islam" Then your part of "The House of War". In other words, if you dont follow the islamic ways, then your dead. They are told to take out anyone that does not follow there ways. So, as you know, fighting breaks out. And keeps going til today.
