Cool...I was giving thought to the 100-400mm being my next lens purchase. I got the 70-200mm 2.8L IS about a month ago and fell in love with it, but found that I was not getting the range I was looking for, so I picked up the 2X teleconverter. Now I got the range I want, but now it's a slow lens and pretty slow focus as well. I still like the 70-200, but am thinking the 100-400 would also be nice. I would love a 400 prime, but I don't think I could swing the $.

I've been shooting a 10D for about 4 months now and love it. I come from the old school all manual film cams and found the learning curve of a more automatic camera a little harder than I thought, also more expensive:). Glad to see another Canon out there, it seems the paintball photographers are all Nikon guys.

I would not swap my Canon for anything.. but one thing is the 10D struggles prob with the 2x as it is not really shooting at 200mm x2 =400mm but at 640 and the 10d will suffer..Plus you lose 2 stops of light with the convertor. With my 1D, 100-400 and sigam 1.4 i find very fast focus and fine for all motorsports etc.

I found that having used digital for a while now i have learnt so much more as i can just go out and shoot and not to have to worry about film and the wait to see results. I used to shoot loads but in the last few months have started to cut back down and concentrate more on what i'm doing... If i look back at photos from a year ago what a difference.

Less than a month would you believe..

It was at our paintball team meet up we have each year and decided that we will all use pumps.. What a great day it was and a chance to blow some cobwebs off the sterling..

Also when you use you 10d i would suggest if your not already setting it to only use the center focus area as that may help speed it up

Yep, center focus point already set. The 10D being my first real auto focus SLR, I found the other focus points to be annoying. The slow focus comes from using the teleconverter, the thing flies when using any of the USM lenses.

One of these days I'll toss more of my pics up, most are just sitting on my data drive.

Any AF system will struggle in low light or on slow lenses. It's just the nature of the beastie. A TC will reduce the light and make the AF system's job harder.

The first flower is very nice, as are the broken pbs on the ground.

                                Keep up the good work.
