    i messed over my computer

I think this is the right forum for this, i went to deep blue but it looks like its for technical paintball stuff not so much computers. Anyway, I re-installed windows cuz my computer was pretty messed up nd i was having all sorts of weird problems. So when i finished and logged on my computer looked like crap (16 colors and 640x480 resolution) no problem i thought ill just change my settings. Well it wont let me go above 16 colors and i cant change the resolution. I figured im just missing a driver for my video card but my computer doesnt seem to know what kind of card it is, i have a program (belarc advisor) that tells me every detail on my computer but it doesn't seem to help (the only thing i can find that seems close to my video card is "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) [Display adapter]") Anyone got any bright ideas?? BTW its windows 98 SE. I had windows 2000 on it before do you think re-installign windows 98 would've done it?

why on earth would you go from 2k to windows 98?

in any event, go to the video card manufactureres website and see if there are drivers available ther for your video card. only other thing I would suggest is re-installing windows 2000

no program (that i know of) will tell you what video card you have if you don't have drivers for it. so you're going to have to find out by either opening up your computer or contacting the people that built your computer. i assume you didn't build it yourself seeing as you don't know what's in it.

That happened to me yesterday on my laptop when I installed halo pc. It went all wierd on me so I rebooted and windows said 'Your display settings are currently very low. Would you like windows to automattically reset them?' and I was like hell yeah because I diddnt know what was wrong I guess it was directx 9 or something.. heh but that was winxp..

No i didnt reformat before i installed it but i did that once on this computer already and it did the same thing but a co-worker fixed the problem for me. i opened the computer and the card had some stuff written on it "fastware" "Intel 740 power 3d" and somewhere esle it says "foxcann"

thats the prob with the older versions of windows... they are bad with drivers. What I recomend is to go to start -> settings -> control pannel -> system. In the system propertys box click the device manager tab... Anything that needs a driver installed will have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to it. This way you arnt guessing as to what is working and what isnt.
