    Quick 1.6/steam question.

    Getting an error that says...
Could not connect to steam network.
This could be a problem with your internet connection.... ect
Now I looked in the FAQ at steam powered.com and found this
I'm getting an error saying I can't connect to Steam right now. Why?

Please check your internet connection to make sure it is functioning properly.

If you're sure that your 'Net connectivity is functioning but you are still unable to log in to Steam, it may be because the required ports are blocked by a device on your network (such as a router).

The following ports must be "open":
    UDP 1200
    UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
    TCP 27030 to 27039 inclusive
How do I 'open' those ports?

I have had some many problems with Steam, I have quit CS.

I really, really, really hate it. And apparently I have no children....

(If you have steam you would understand what that means..)

steam does that a WHOLE lot to me. my fix has been going into the steam folder, opening unwise and repairing it to the original and then downloading all of the updates again. it is a pain in the arse, but it seems to be the only thing that works. i really wish dpb would switch over! steam=t3h sux

jerm- who are you guys playing with this weekend? i think i may try to convince chris to let me tag along

Reinstall or try getting rid of something like masterserver.xxx then restarting Steam.

Steam works great, once its installed.

The trick is download steaminstall_cs.exe, the 370mb file, off of FilePlanet. DO NOT use the much smaller steaminstall.exe found all over.

Everyone I know who tried to use steaminstall.exe had TONS of problems, including myself.

I used the steaminstall_cs.exe, and everything worked flawlessly from then on.

Learn how to get it working, and stop your complaining. Unless you like to whine more than you like to play CS, which seems to be the case.

What do you mean by deleted all your steam stuff?
I'm guessing you just uninstalled then reinstalled?
Or did you uninstall then re-dl?

Assuming the ports are closed, you need to go into your router setup and open them.

Read your router manual, it should tell you how to access your routers control panel. Usually its an IP like 192.168.0.1, but check your manual.

From there you can make sure your ports are open. Hope that helps.

                              Thats the thing..

Just got a new computer, and decided i'd just plug in the router/modem and give it a shot seeing as i lost the software/manuals for both.. lo and behold it worked.
