alright im not a computer genius but i know theres something wrong lol.... anyways i know nothing about the spec of my computer i do know im on a cable connection but its not the connection with the problem. alright i just got down downloading some songs of kazaa playing a little CS and just searching AO anyways out of no where its like im getting these lag spikes... but its not from the internet my computer was fine before but now its all weird. when i say before it was like an hour ago. i push alt control delete and see if theres any programs open but theres non. i check the system process in the alcontrol delete thing and my system usage bar is at around 8 the whole time but shoots up to 80-90 like every 30 seconds anyone have any idea why this is happening?
A very weird computer problem

What operating system are you using? Make sure you are looking at the PROCESSES tab. Not the Applications.
Look in the CPU column and you shouls see System Idle Process up in the high 90's. Look for what other Processes are using cpu.

yeah im useing 2000 and something i think nt but i could be very wrong... anyways only things useing cpu are the system idle process wich is always in the 90's my internet pages i have open and occasionally the csrss.exe will take 1 or 2 could that be it
and i found some spy ware crap on my comp but that didnt seam to do the trickt33kyboy "So if a cat is dropped from 11 inches, it will most likely die."Comment

Your best bet is going to be a reboot. Not sure what the problem is but this will usually fix it. When was the last time you did a reboot? How many prog's do you have running in the systray(lower righthand corner). Usually anything in the systray will take 2-4% apiece, it varies tho. But thats not enough to account for the 80%+ your talking about. How long does the spike last?Comment

the spike last mere seconds... i could really tell when i was playing counterstrike cuase it would make it obvious to everyone
the only things in the tray are the volume and the connection icon. i have everything else closed i rebooted about 2 hours ago. ( moms comp pass protected lol dont want to reboot now ) i deleted a spyware program just now and it seams to be working better if not i guess i have to reboot

Do you have a cd in the cd-rom? I know on some systems I have worked on if the cd in the cd-rom was a bad copy or something was wrong with the drive reading it, it would take forever for the "My Computer" window to open.
Eject the disc and try again and see what happens.

if you have a laptop, listen to the hard drive. if it makes a rhythmic clicking noise (not the normal noise, but it will be in a rhythm), then your hard drive is messed. this happened to me lots of time because of the abuse of taking my laptop to school and back in a bookbag while it was turned on. when the hard drive was all messed up, it took like 20 min to turn on, then it froze.
even if this isnt the problem, and your sure your lag isnt becuase of your internet, then there is something wrong with your hard drive- try defragmentingYummy yummy yummy, I've got fun in my tummy.

Check your disk space... if you are using a good percentage of the disk and its pretty fragmented windows could be having troubles with the swap files. If windows has to break them up becase the disk is freagmented or whatever it will eat up your performance big time.Sig image must be under 20kComment

I bet it WAS fragmented. when the drive is seriously fragmented, it takes forever for the computer to do anything, and it gets fragmented even easier the more the hard drive is filled.POG Member #919
