Dating can be fun when you know how to just be yourself. The best chicks appreciate guys for that. I've never been smooth, but I've got the "be yourself" thing down to a science. Does that make it rehearsed, and hence not being myself? Oh well, I was never good at science.

But dating rules, its always the beginning thats so much fun.

Not exactly a date, but still a good one.

My girlfriend (now fiance, due to this story) had never been to New York and always wanted to go
I told her we would go on a long weekend to San Antonio for her birthday. What she did not know is that in the 4 months before her birthday I had bought an engagement ring and a 4 day trip to NYC.
She thought we were going to San Antonio Fri-Sun but I made the trip for Thur-Sun and went behind her back to her boss to arrange for the Thursday off without her knowing about it.
She came home from work Wed and I told her to pack a bag, we were leaving in the morning, not on Friday. She still thought we were going to San Antonio (about a 3 hour drive).
She did not know we were going to NYC until I was checking our bags in at the airport.
We get to NYC, check into the JR suite, I had roses, champagne and choclates sent in before we got there, basically I am overwhelming her. We take a carriage ride in central park (about 2 blocks away), go back to the hotel and I give her the ring.

Overall about $5000 for the ring and the trip boiled down to getting down on one knee and asking a question.

I would do it again in a second, that was just about the best "date" I have been on.

Sure, it sounds great but it is hard to keep that kind of secret from someone you live with for that long.

From June thru Sept I planned this thing and could not give her any kind of indication that I was doing it so that it would be a surprise when the time came.

BTW, if anyone is going to NYC soon I highly recommend staying at the Le Parker Meridian.

this summer when I was in Italy, I had a week or so after my classes finished to just bum around before my flight home...

So, i went to the Italian Riviera to chill for a few days...

the first night i was there, i met this hot blonde american chick who was on vacation, she bought us a couple bottles of wine, and the night ended up with us making out on the beach under the stars...

kinda spontaneous, and i didn't even get her last name, and havn't seen her since, but it was a pretty cool evening... i gotta get the pics scanned of that week...

The first date I went on with the one girl I know, for a fact, I was completely and hopelessly in love with. The ironic thing is, at the time I thought we would really work out for the long term...and I wouldn't be sitting here four years later thinking "I remember that girl. She was great." That's life sometimes...a swift kick in the jimmy.

That one is sure to always be tucked away in the mental banks as one of the "great ones". Just don't tell the wife you think about it from time to time (when you get a wife I mean)!

Okay here is a good one to use. Back in college I had this pseudo hippie/environmentalist girlfriend. Basically a girl that is into the outdoors, hiking but hasn't truly given up her preppy roots of being daddy's little girl.

I knew we were going for a mountain bike ride in the afternoon so I bought some flowers in the morning and busted my butt riding to a suitable resting spot and hid them. During the ride I magically produced the flowers. Works like a charm and you young bucks can borrow it. Unfortunately I don't need such tricks anymore as I am married, balding, and gaining weight!!!!
