your neck and that area place thingy

can a paintball shot to that area below your neck (trachea) kill you? i heard from my biology teacher that 7lbs of force to that area can crush your trachea. to find it, just start at the top of your neck, under your chin, and go down towards your chest until you feel that weird soft area. 7lbs could do it. i dont know whether a pb shot to that could do something... so wat do you all know?

I got hit right there reffing a tourney 3 weeks ago. It stunned me, and I had to sit out a couple of games... but I'm still alive.

If you could consider this living.

I have decided to get a neck protector for reffing from now on, though.

i hate it how your teacher explains how little force you can get hurt or how easy you can get a desiese and the symptoms of that deseise and you go home thinking you have a bad virus or something. i swore that i had tetnis because i havent had my shot in like 10 years and i cut myself with a rusty knife... turns out it was all in my mind and im paranoid!

Yeah, I've seen people get shot there before and they were fine. I once saw a kid that was no older than 12 get shot there from about 10 feet away and it barely phased him. I'm sure a lot of that was just adrenaline covering up the pain but was still suprising. The human body can take way more pain than a lot of people give it credit for.

Very first time I played several years ago, a more experienced player scared me into believing this (he was just trying to scare me, he knew better...) Obviously, it could happen but is very VERY unlikely...I ended up buying a neck protector Im glad im not a noob anymore...

I haven't been shot in the trachea, really... but one time I got anti-bunkered, and ended up with 3 shots to the side of my neck. The only result was a hickey from hell!! And the dissapearance of any previous fear of getting shot... at all...

I sorta had the same deal as Bobtehcow...

back when I was in USAF techschool in north TX, a lowcrawler infiltrated up the center of the feild duringa game of woods ball...

anyhow he 1 shot the guy next to me and when I looked to check where he got shot from this guy came out of the brush and started ripping his cocker. Like a tard jumped over the bunker I was on and tried to make it to a perpendicular one, only to get shot 2 times on either side of my trachea(plus like 4 or five other hits) from 20ish feet away. Anyhow it made it hard to breathe for a minute and I just waited out the game sitting on the car in the feild.

Personally id take a hit anywhere else than the neck again... especially when you have to explain the 2 huge welts on both sides of your neck to someone who can end your career in the military! :P

I would think if it was that easy we would all be using neck protectors.
And there probably would have been an incident by now.

From a decent medical standpoint. Yes in fact your trachea can be crushed by around 7 lbs of force. I have no idea how much force a paintball can carry at impact from 10 feet away but i can almost for certain say that a paintball shot from 5 feet or closer chronoed to 280 or above could crush your trachea. That doesn't mean you'll die. If someone who is nearby who is certified or who's brave enough to do a tracheostomy you will survive....but thats slim to none just about.

Ice Hockey neck protectors would do the trick. The worst I have seen of a shot to the neck was the kid nearly passed out. He was all stumbly and confused.

neck protectors are an investment well worth it.

ive been hit in the junk and in the neck. I can safely say, that I would rather be shot in the junk again (i was wearing rase paintball pants). oddly enough, the shot I had to the neck was the one time I didnt wear my neck protector during a game.

adding more insult to injury.. it was mossman that did it.

the biggest insult of it all, he did it with my marker..

so yea, get a neck protector. best 10 or so bucks you will ever spend.
