    Pocket PC/ PDA thoughts/recomendations

I am contemplating the purchase of a new PDA. The two that fit my price range that I have seen are the Dell Axim X5, and the HP iPAQ model 1945. I want to spend around $300 for a PDA with microsoft programs, wireless capabilities, MP3 player, etc (pretty much what these two models have). Any suggestion on these or other PDAs? Thanks!

i work at best buy in the wireless department, so pdas are my thing

i personaly has an HP 1910 and then it went crazy and i bought a new 2215.

anyways, the dell axioms are freakin huge machines and you cant go into a storefront if you have a problem. but like i said, they are BIG.

the 1945 is a much smaller pda, however the downside is that you can not add any compact flash periferals and its only 266 mhz. so you can not to 802.11b. it does have bluetooth and a very good screen but no wireless other than tooth also the 266mhz is a little slow and you REALLY notice a difference between that and a 400

i would really recommend that you save up some more and buy the IPAQ 2215.

its got a compact flash slot and SD slot, bluetooth, 400MHZ, and it actually comes with a cradle which the 1945 only comes with cables.
i personaly go wireless in my apartment with it

a very very good machine it runs 400 in stores, but i think you can find em on the internet for 360 or something like that, i highly reccomend it, like i said thats what ive got

Thanks for the advice. I'm taking a trip to Best Buy tomorrow to check them out, and actually get some hands on instead of just looking on the computer.

thats a pretty good idea, ask em to take out the pdas so you get a good idea of the size

and if stand there and play with the 1945 for a while, switch to another pda that has a 400MHZ processor, you will notice quite a difference, at least i did when i upgraded.

I jsut got back. The one you recommended is the one I will probably get, it was a lot better then the 1945. One more question for you or anyone who can answer it. If I want to get a wireless internet card (802.11b I think) do I need one of those network stations, or do I just need to subscribe with an internet provider?

to use the wireless card you have to have some sort of wireless device that sends the signal

so you have to have a wireless router, i use a wireless router in my apartment, but the university i attend has wireless networking in alot of the buildings, so i can get on there too.
