    Lookout NEA!

This is a great idea! The Govenor of Minnesota wants to pay teachers $100K. In return they would lose all union protections (tenure, etc...). Their pay would be based on performance like the real world. He calls the positions "SuperTeachers". Sounds great to me. Reward and attract the best teachers you can for your students without any NEA garbage tieing your hands.

That'd be amazing. Finally seeing people who regularly put in 10+ hours a day rewarded.

Edit: Nevermind, it isn't that great. It's based off of standardized test scores. and "assign them when we want and how we want " sounds a bit shady; not sure what he means by it.
"What we have to accomplish at this time is all the more clear: relentless criticism of all existing conditions, relentless in the sense that the criticism is not afraid of its findings and just as little afraid of the conflict with the powers that be."

I'm not a fan of basing performance off standardized tests.

Mainly you then get teachers that teach to the tests which gives high scores, but that leaves questionable the amount of actual knowledge the student retains.

If schools weren't run by the government, the problem not only would already be fixed, but never would have been a problem.

No matter what the government tries to do, it can't compete with the private sector (except for the few obvious Constitutional items...).

I went to private High School, and I wish that I had gone to a public school. All my friends had so many more classes to choose from, so many more things at there school. I really think they had a better time in high school than I did.

Maybe our priorities are a little screwy.

I think this move is an EXCELLENT idea.

Granted, when i lived in Minn i went to a private school... but if something like this was instituted in MI a lot of heads would roll... and we might start getting some real teachers in the education system instead of the morons that are churned out by the party schools (MSU, EMU, WMU, CMU, ETC).

And for those of you who want to "teach", screw getting an "education degree", major in something applicable, like biology or mathmatics, so that someday you might actually know what you're talking about in a classroom, rather than reading to your class out of a teachers edition textbook.
