    Lost our parrot

On friday at about 5 we left our African Grey parrot out on the back porch on his perch, when we then come to find that he's gone. We found a little patch of feathers by a bush but thats it. We searched all over the place but found nothing. We dont know what could have happend to him He is a verry expensive bird and now he's gone it sucks.

My first question would be... did you let your cat out, too??

**edit** that wasn't supposed to be mean or anything, losing my pet a couple months ago was horrible... just an honest suggestion, cats like birds!

Dude that sucks, we lost a cakatil(sp) once. Was your birds wings clipped, if they were some type of preditor bird might of gotten it, or [possibly one of those vicious chipmunks. Well i am really sorry that u lost your bird.

        that really sucks...

if ya only found a litle patch of feathers, it could have been a hawk or somthing, they usually carry off thier prey after catching it...

but then again, the little patch of feathers could more than likely be from another bird, and yours just flew off... I'd recommend posting an ad in the newspaper or putting up flyers, if its a parrot and someone sees it, they'll look twice, and especially old people who like to watch birds... that way maby you'll get a lead if someone sees it...

I have a cockatiel that likes to fly out any open windows and or doors, and we have to chase it down and catch it before anything else gets to it...

but as for the time being.... sorry about the loss man, I know how I'd feel if my bird disappeared... which is prolly what your feelin right now...

Ya thanks guys, we did have his wings cliped resently. The patch of feathers were from him becouse we found a red one there. We dont have a cat and no one around us does. Our guess was that it might have been a sparow hawk that might have come by and snached him, or maybee Ravens wich never really come by often.

Not to be insensitive, but why did you leave and not cage your bird--let alone, leave him outside?

How old is he? I don't see a raven or crow going after your bird--they are scavengers, not predators. As for a sparrow hawk, well, they have that name for a reason--sparrows are small birds. African Greys are at least 2 times the size of a sparrow, if not bigger. Anyway, since his wings are clipped, he wouldn't get very far on his own. Is your backyard fenced in, or is it open? I would look into the possibility of him being stolen.

I'm sorry to hear about your bird and I hope that you get him back soon. I'm trying to convince my wife that we NEED an African Grey, but so far, she's not buying into it.

sorry to hear that man. Look on the bright side, now you can get a macaw! I have a greenwing. I would recommend a greenwing, a blue and gold, or a hyacinth(although hyacinths are very very expensive).
