    Aaron...

Honestly I think CB just likes to get off on getting everyone else p***** off. As Sam, myself and many others have said many times, the only argument he has is that he demands for us to show proof of our viewpoints/opinions. But... at no time has he EVER provided us with proof of his. Every post is the same, "Did you read what I said? Go back and read it again." Without ANY explanation for his argument. (Once you decipher his horrendous grammar and spelling.)

I freely admit that I am not the most eloquent writer. Army, Sam, FOL, 1DE and yourself all do a magnificent job of expressing, not only your viewpoint/opinion but, that shared by the majority of people here.

Yes, I have stepped into his snare because this 20y/o snot-nosed puke can do nothing more than sit behind his keyboard and spout his nonsense. I don't give a hoot and holler how big he is, I would dare say he doesn't have the brass to make known his presence around any of the AO'ers in person.

                      Man, I can't believe I'm posting this.

But here is a disclaimer....I am only talking to the aviation side of things. I personally am looking into a conceal/carry permit...so that tells you where I stand with that.

However, I can say that guns and planes don't mix. It has been stated on here that a bullet hole or two won't cause the plane to go down or threaten anyone's life. I however disagree. There are various types of decompressions. Some occur slowly (bad seal or whatever...actually a plane is constantly decompressing but the compressors keep it at pressure). Others, (rapid and explosive) occur much more violently.

You think it's just fiction that people get sucked out of airplanes? Think again. HERE is an NTSB brief about an accident that occured on a 747 flight out of Honolulu. There was an explosive decompression that occurred because a lower cargo hold latch wasn't latched properly. The explosive decompression caused a large section of the aircraft to rip away including a few rows of seats. In addition, two engines had to be shut down due to debris that had gotten sucked in. This all happened at an altitude of about 23,000 ft. Not very high at all so the pressure differential wasn't that great.

Now, I understand that there are bullets that can be fired to kill someone, but not penetrate the hull of an aircraft. That sounds good and all, but there are just too many variables. The hole that would be produced by a bullet probably would not create a rapid decompression, let alone an explosive decompression. But, if the bullet struck a seam, or a joint, or a weak fatigued point, or debris was lost and sucked into an engine, or, or, etc.

It's a tuff call. I think Army described it best: Air Marshalls are highly trained, competent individuals who won't go popping of rounds just for the fun of it.

                      In closing...

I don't think anyone is advocating that they should be allowed to carry their gun (as in Aaron_mag carrying a Markov Pistol on the plane for the safety of everyone else). I think people are arguing that an armed U.S. Marshall would be effective on a plane if they were on the plane where a terrorist attack occured. Any sane person can accept that having a trained law enforcement professional on the plane makes it safer (although we probably can't afford to have one on every plane).

If I am mistaken and everyone is saying, "Hey 1stdeadeye should be able to carry a Glock on the plane so that he could personally deal with any terrorist attack" then you are a fool and should get your head examined. Sorry there is no gentle way to put it.

A 10' wide door blowing off is a lot different than a bullet hole.

But a plane is a machine with a million parts moving at 500mph 5 miles off the ground, and not everything can be predicted. I think the realistic arguement here is that guns are the best way to positively impact the situation, not the perfect way.

Personally I think a great idea would be to give the pilots the ability to very rapidly decompress the aircraft. Anyone not using oxygen will be peacefully passed out in about 20-30 seconds (depending on altitude).

Again, not a perfect solution, but it raises the bar once again. Which is all we can really ever hope to do.

I think your first point was more on target.

Yeah...you're right...it's not the perfect way, but probably the best. There is calculated risk involved.

BTW, Restola, have you had any classes on Air Safety/Accidents? Those were my favorite. It's absolutely crazy watch can cause an aircraft to go down. Flt. 232 that crashed in Souix City IA was caused by an impurity the size of a grain of sand in the metal of a rotor!
