need a new tv soon... need some help with HDTV stuff

I need a new TV soon. I'm looking for 27-36" and I want it to have HD capability if it's possible for under $700(or am I reaching on that). Give me your opinions and reccomendations on what TVs to look at and what to stay away from.

Now for another question. Can somebody give me a general overview of HDTV and recievers? What I need, What I wouldn't need and that kinda crap?

    Thanks.

    Okay,

I would definatly buy those new 16:9 screen size, you know, a wide screen because in 2 years, every cable company will broadcast in 16:9, plus, it's way cooler when you watch a movie in widescreen format. Get a tube not a projection TV, tubes are way cleaner than projection but might be more expensive. Then get a progressive scan DVD to get cinema quality. If you want surround, you need a receiver and a 5.1 speaker system. You don't need super high end stuff for a small room. When shopping for your tv, ask the salesman to put the cable on the screen, not a DVD, this will give you a good idea how cable will look on your TV.

I have at home a Sony Wega XBR 32'' with a Panasonic progressive scan and a Kenwood reveiver/5.1 speaker combo, and it gives me a great home movie experience.

Mine is a 55" 16:9 widescreen HD, and I love it.

six months ago when I was moving I informed the moving company that if they were put in a posistion where imminent harm was to befall my wife and TV at the same time I expected the TV to make it. The wife can fend for herself

I slept on the couch that night, but it didn't matter, I was watching TV.
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - Tyger

Dude...there is no way you can get a decent tv with hdtv in those sizes for under $700. Maybe a Sony flat screen 27". thats about it.

Yeah... with a HD receiver and all the other odds and ends expect to pay 2 grand at LEAST. When I bought mine I figured 36 was fine for my apt... 1000 bux.. no prob. Egggggghhhhhhhh ... survey says WRONG!!!... all the other odds and ends add up fast. Hell expect to spend a couple of hundred on cables alone. Then add Progressive on the DVD and 4-500 for a HD receiver. (I got mine for 150 .. open box, no remote.)
