Made Districts.

Hey I'm really bored (and tired) and I just wanted to let you all know, I made district band. I tried out on the snare option(i'm a percussionist). I made fisrt chair in honors band (the best player in the best band) and I'm pretty psyched. We got state in less that a month, pretty psyched about that too.

So I was wondering if there any other band nerds out there representing?

My HS's band is going to states, just placed first in districts...were pretty good (400 or so people in the band)

our jazz ensamble(sp?) is best in the state, and our marching band is currently in second for TOB. We have ACC's this weekend which is our finals. This is the best the marching band has ever been in the history of the school.

lol I *could* be considered a band nerd... although I don't march, and I'm not all that amazing at trumpet... meh.

We haven't had our district/all-state auditions yet....

But I made All-State Jazz band on Tenor Saxophone and I've made All-State and honor band several years on both Tenor and Alto Saxophone.

I'm in my school's jazz band also. It's a pretty cool group, we have a gig just about every week and get to miss alot of school because of it. The school legally can not give use (the students) any of the money the jazz band makes but we do get to buy cool new stuff with the money we make.

Oh...get this... one thing I did not know last night till the kid got home was the gig they did was opening for Maynard Ferguson!

Yep he did a show last night at the Handlebar in Greenville SC. The kids Jazz band opened the show for him.

Then they stayed and were guests of the band for Maynards show. They said he was awesome.

If your not familiar with him (I didn't think I was either) he is the one who did the Rocky Theme song amongst many other things.

OMG!!! I hope your son knows how lucky he is. Thats a once in a life time chance. Maynard is a trumpet GOD! I his Monette Trumpet... but they're like $30,000

he was stoked when he got home. He in fact did not know who he was going to play for when he left. Which is why he didn't tell me about it and I would have gone! I was sorely dissapointed. I think he found out on the way they were going over to the Handlebar. And not until he got there did he realize they were opening for Maynard! He musta completely slept that day in class! LOL

Yea he was really honored. I asked them if they played well. He said yea they got a good reponse from the audience. But then Maynard comes out and blows em all away. Humbling...

yeah, i really like marching band, anyway, we hold our own. Yeah, we don't get any money either but like thats what i meant, so anywayabout a year on concert snare, well sence may, thats when i started taking lessons from my instructor.
