    My first ride!

Well I'm almost 16, so my dad bought me a Jeep. Its a green 93 Cherokee, Straight 6, 4.0 liter, PL, PW, PS. I like it and it drives good, needs some new tires and yes I know I need to wash it. Well just figured I would share. Tell me what you think.

Those I6 engines are great. I have one in my grand cherokee, and we abused it on a regular basis, its got 111,000 miles on it, I put 11,000 of those on there. The thing wasn't very fast, but it wasn't slow either I wouldn't expect to be beating many ricers with it. That thing has power though, I took it offroading and I couldn't get the thing stuck, deep mud, sand, crossing streams. There was this huge pile of sand me and my jeep used to like to play in and when it rained the middle would fill up with water. That water got up to the doors, and the jeep didn't complain about it at all. Great car, enjoy it and abuse it.

Man, looking at that thing really makes me miss my jeep. I think its time to give the insurance co. a call and see what it would cost to add another car. 85 cherokee for 500 bucks

Just remember how much your jeep does for you, and every time you see some sand or mud your jeep wants to play, and its just not fair to not let it

Well, I'm not expecting to beat many ricers or at least not for a while because believe it or not I don't like fast yet lol. I'm gonna go off roading to test its limits but not to crazy. Unfournatly it doesn't have four wheel drive.

no 4x4... That sucks. You can still have fun in the mud somewhat. You can even hit the sand as long as its not too deap. I still go on the beach with my camaro, but I only do it when my frieds with 4x4 trucks are there because half the time I end up getting pulled off. THe trick is just to not stop moving, once you stop your done.

                            I've got a '99 cherokee 4.0L auto and I love it.

However, its got a lot of power, but not racing power

The major problem is the fact that the big 6 is inline, not V shaped. This means that your max revolutions will be extremely limited, and becuase of it, so will your horsepower. Typically the 242 ci (4.0 L) will put out around 190 hp, whereas the new honda 3.0L will do ~240 hp.

4.5k is the absolute max the automatic will allow, and that only when you really punch it.

Biggest concern I have with the truck is its extreme light weight. Because of the unibody construction (not standard body-on-frame), the 4x4 4.0L I have weighs only 3100 lbs. With the rear-wheel drive, it's absolutely crazy when you try to do 4x2 in the rain. I have to be extremely careful not to spin the wheels when rounding a corner even at very slow speeds.

However, when it snowed 24" last year, and all those little ricers were stuck indoors... I was out, driving easily with my 4x4.

Conclusion? I like jeeps, but don't expect to race.

My grand cherokee never had a problem in the rain in 4x2. I'm pretty sure it shifted after 4500rpms before, but maybie i'm wrong. Then again the grand weighs in about 400lbs more than the regular cherokee.
