There are only 3 Amendments that carry the phrase, "The Right Of The People...".

    Amendment I

the right of the people peaceably to assemble,.....

    Amendment II

the right of the people to keep and bear Arms....

    and Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons....

Amendments XV, XIX,XXIV & XXVI(15,19,24 & 26) carries a different word but still primarily the same meaning....

The right of citizens of the United States to vote .....

Everyone screams about the Right to Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom from illegal search and seizure and the freedom to vote(or not), and constantly point to these Amendments as the basis for these freedoms. BUT, why do certain groups and individuals not scream as loudly for the Second Amendment?

I think it can be summed up in one word............ Fear. Basically they are afraid of something that they know nothing about. If it was required that they be taught the responsiblity and safety of using firearms at an early age, just as they are taught to read and write, then I believe we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Sam, here in Calli we have the State Military Reserves (their shoulder patch has SMR on it, so we call them "SMuRfs!), as do all other states.

These people all unpaid volunteers in their fields of expertise or former MOS. Whenever needed (WarFighter, medical checks, records review, Post operations) these Militia members will don uniforms they bought and maintain themselves, and transport themselves to wherever needed by POV with little to no compensation. Some do receive per-diem, but only if the Calli Dept of the Military has requested those persons specifically, and places them on special orders.

The Militia still exists legitimately, and legally, in all states. Most of these members do NOT have prior military training nor experience, they simply have a compassion to serve as citizens, for citizens.

Those groups that would call themselves a militia, are nothing more than big kids playing war. They are NOT recognised by any State dept., nor would they be asked to participate in any legal military function. They are usually led by a political extremist, and hold no other agenda than to rise against the Govt. should it, in their view, become illegal or cease to exist. They aren't ALL nuts, but it doesn't hurt to be one

Oops, only 22 states maintain a recognised State Defense Force. Sorry about that.

Here's the latest revision to the Act:
