I just got quicktime and they made me get I-tunes too. I have a collection of about 10 music programs i'm too lazy to delete, but this one is by far one of the best. THe damn thing didn't get the song info for half my stuff though, so i'm going through and doing it all manually

One thing I cannot figure out, how do I rip CD's with it, or does it not do that?

it does rip CD's and connects tot he CDDB lib too if you let it.

On the Mac side, you insert the CD, the CD pulls up on the left window and if it connects to the net it will pull up the names too. Then you click the little button top right on the iTunes window. It then does em all (unles you unchecked any)

prefecences for importing (like bitrate/ sampling and what not are all found in the prefernces. I was always partial to 256vbr because you cannot tell the sound quality difference (I think 128 is CRAP). Hope this helps.

I put the cd in, and it just pops up the window asking me what I want to open it with, I click I tunes and nothing happens. I cannot get it to open at all in I tunes or to even recognize I have a cd in there. Maybie its the cd, I need to fight with windows media player to get it open. Cd isn't scratched or anything though, some kind of copy protection maybie?

probly not. there is talk of CD's coming that wont let you rip them but I have yet to encounter any. Like you said you have lots or Mp3/music playing apps, perhaps you need to clean them off or disable them (whatever the PC lingo is ) I know that the app works because I ahve used it on a PC to rip with but sadly, I am useless to you on troubleshooting.

find a 'Lame' based mp3 encoder and convert your files. Its really easy. Here's my favorite cd ripper/encoder:

I figured it out, you actually have to restart your computer, I think this is the first program restarting has ever made a differance with.

im downloading iTunes now. maybe it will change these opinions:

CDEx - best ripping software ever

                      dbPowerAmp - best conversion software

                      winamp - best player

thats what ive used all along to manage my 50 gigs of music. never had a problem

maybe ill come to like itunes.

iTunes truly is a great program, I've been using it for over a year. I really like how Apple did the port to the PC, looks pretty much like it does on a Mac. Really a Jack of All Trades program for music.

iTunes 4.0 ran like poo. Maybe I'll update and give it another try.
