Thanks for the pics Gunga. I'm going to have to go there myself to check out the YF-23 in person myself one day. I'm also a big military aircraft fan. Mainly the modern jets.

The first production F/A-22 was delivered to Tyndall, AFB earlier this year.

I think the only person who knows for sure which plane was most maneuverable is test pilot Paul Metz. He flew the YF-23 and when it lost the contract, was hired by Lockheed and flew the YF-22.

I love the military Air stuff, but it's more of a passive thing.

I did manage to go out for an Air Show near me a few years back. They offered a flight in a B-17 and other plans for 300 bucks. They had other old planes there as well, it was really neat.

Lets face it, there will probably never be another war that sees the massed dogfights of WW1, and especially WW2. That means there also probably wont be a pilot who racks up 20 or more kills for a while. That things still cool though.
Hehe, I built several models of the Fokker DVII. I like the DrI and Siemens Schuckert DIV as well.

My personal favorite for coolest aircraft never utilized by the military is the AH-56 Cheyenne. Unfortunately, it was killed by the budget axe, and replaced my the AH-64 Apache.

              Neat fighter.

However, If I wanted to buy a fighter, this is the baby I would want:

              P-51 Mustang!

Ah, the old 'Stang. Thats a classic plane. I also like these bad boys:

The ol' Jug doesnt get much respect, but it was an awesome plane. There was one incident during WWII that I read about recently involving a P-47. A FW 190 bounced a wounded P47 as it was heading back to England. The 190 had expended all its cannon rounds previously, but it set about firing all its .30 ammunition at the Jug, which couldnt manuever. It was a sitting duck. After the 190 had emptied its magazines, the Jug was still flying. The Luftwaffe pilot actually pulled up alongside the 47 and shook his head in amazement before returning to base.

I applied for a coop at lockheed martin, also for one at boeing. I know nothing about aero stuff, I'd be working on EE, and CSE junk, but it would be a cool place to work. Maybe I'll be able to steal one of those sweet fighter jets. That would rock. Or maybe I'll make photocopies for people all day.

Funny you should mention the AH-64. Coming home from school on Friday I passed by one up on a trailor blocking the road. It had crashed the day before and they were bringing it in.

                        Hey Steelrat,
The P-47 pilot that story you read was about is Robert Johnson, the second highest scoring american ace in the ETO with 28 victories.

The Focke Wulfe was one of the "Abbeville Boys" of JG26. Johson said that the 190 he tangled with was "beautifull, and death on the wing" and the german was obviously mystified by his riddled Jug

I got it out of a FW190 book of mine and it has a real cool pic of Johnson to go along with it but AO wont let me post it
