    Essays suck.

I have to write a letter to an author of my choice about how one of his/her books has changed my outlook on life. The only books that I have ever truly enjoyed were Micheal Crichton's books. So I right about his book Sphere, and at first I was worried about not having enough words. So I just kept typing whatever came to my head, and I kept coming up with new ideas. Before I know it, I've been typing for 3 hours on this 250-500 word letter. Guess what?

    I'm 1756 words over.

Worse, I can't even decide on what to take out. Every part is kind of important to me....and I'll be taking out like my entire letter. This sucks....why do there have to be limits on how much you can write? I mean, if you truly want to express yourself, I think you should be alloud to right however much you want. And I still have algebra to do....dammit.

Silence. You have nothing to complain about. Your puny "I like this author because...." essay is easy. I would give alot to go back to doing stuff like that. Unfortunately, that just isn't so. I just finished a 12 page paper on the relationship between "The Fool" and King Lear, in Shakespeare's work by the same name, "King Lear". There isn't even 2 pages worth of dialouge between the two and somehow I expelled 12 pages of rhetoric. Silence you, you and your essay.

you can't complain until you get to college, if you think what you have now is tough you'll totally crack in college.

At least they're in the same play. I wrote a lengthy paper comparing Iago to Edmund once. Now that was a steaming pile of BS

I used to get into trouble with those essays. I would pick an author who criticized education, write about his view points, and explain how I realized public education was a complete waste of my time.

Actually, I don't really consider it a waste, I just thought certain assignments were a waste of my time so I'd do things to spite the teacher if she needed some spiting. Hehe.

Did I say my essay was hard? I don't think I did. And if I did, it was by mistake. I simply asked why are there restrictions on the word count of essays. So far, pyro has had the most informative post, with miscue in a close second....everyone else is just complaining, actually. Jebus.

I don't care much for essays, but what I really hate is take home exams (which are essays).

They are more time consuming than studying for a test, you only retain a lot concerning a few topics rather than a lot on a many topics, and professors are WAY may demanding of them! I prefer to go to class and dump the contents of my brain on paper (and get an "excellent" comment), than have my take-home exam ripped apart for things I never considered, thank you.

Anybody can express themselves if you give them enough words to do it. It takes a lot more practice to squeeze all that quality into one small package.
