Ohhhh yes. The 300ZX's were rear wheal drive :) Take a stock TT engine (300hp) and drop about $5k into it and you've got a 650-700hp monster (depending on what all u spend that $5k on).

And no more transmission, no more rear end, a splintered driveshaft :)

LOVE the 240's, prefer the 260's though, and the 280 series was when they went yuppie, too bad.

The 302 will fit nice a snug in there. That was the "Nth" in hot-rodding mods to the 240-260 back in the 70's. Don't forget the BIG whales-tail, those are so much more cool than the current skinny sticks on todays ricers. Ya can't have a 302 in a 240 without big fatty skins either. If you're gonna do this ride right, ya gotta go with what works.

                  Say wha?

Ok what I got from that. Something about the 302 fitting nice, something about Nth and what the hell is a whale tail? Im not from the 70s, you gotta use more modern words yo! lol What do whales-tail look like? I might like it.

If you are going the SBC route save some money up and go with a 346 aluminum block (AKA the LS1). Lighter than the I6 and if later down the line you really wanted to go crazy on it I have seen them push a 3200lb car deep into the 8s. But the big reason I say go that way is that those motors are very efficient in the stock setup. 340-380 horse and get proboly around 35 mpg hwy on a car that light. The really nice though though is that you havent got the maint responsibilitys you have to worry about with somehting like the 3.0TT out of a late model Z.

                          ahhh yes, the old 240Z.
                          Great car!

If you want some more power though.... there are a few "easy" swaps that you can do:

                          1) SR20DET. This is a 2.0L Turbo DOHC Nissan motor found in the Silvia and 180SX in Japan. This motor makes 200-250HP (depending on model). For a car as light as the 240Z, that would make it pretty fun.

                          2) RB20DET. This is a 2.0L Turbo DOHC I6 Nissan motor found in early (R32) Skyline GTS-T's. A VERY strong motor, iron block. You won't be easy to blow it (unless you lean it out)

                          3) The V8 Swaps mentioned above. Although they would wreck the light, agile style of the car, they are still badass.

                          4) RB25DET or RB26DETT. It has been done. For those of you who don't know, these motors are found in the higher models of the skyline in Japan. RB25DET is the newest GTS-T motor and the RB26DETT is the GTR motor. The GTR is AWD, but the RB25DET motor bolts right up and converts it to RWD. This would be the choice that I would go. It fits in with custom motor and transmission mounts (can be bought from stores such as mckinney motorsports). The RB26DETT has made over 900 AWHP on the stock bottom end. And contrary to popular belief, the RB25DET is the same block, just a different head. So it is also capable.

FragTek, although the 300ZX motor is a very nice motor, I will have to disagree with you. first of all, you said you owned a 90 TT. My father owned a candy apple red 91 TT. You would have noticed that there is no room under the hood to do anything, it is a very large motor. It could fit into the 240Z, but it would take A LOT of custom fabrication, and in the end would be more expensive than the RB swaps which would bring you more power in the end.

Even if you decide to restore it, it is a great car, and you should definately buy it (if you haven't yet).
Soon to own an E-Mag, the funds are close.

I dont know, I have always had a good hookup with the car modification industry, and to me cutting out fenders, moving the radiator farther forward and welding in some custom motor mounts isnt too big of a deal.

But you are very right, that is a very wide engine, 'specially with the turbo's.
