I'm not jealous of those with H2's (not just because I dont' like them either...). Nor do I believe that anyone else that shares my negative opinion of the H2 does so out of jealousy over financial status. Sometimes people just have opinions.

hummers were made to serve one purpose, to serve the military and do things that the jeeps couldnt. the h1's are fun to roam around in, but not economical in the long run. The h2's were ment to appeal to a younger generation, but not that many people are gunna spend 50,000 on an suv, they talk about them being great offroad, but r u really gunna drive an suv, or any car that matter, that costs that much offroad or put it in harms way.

Did you read my posts about what my friends do with there hummers? The beat the hell out of them, get them airborn, drag stuff, run stuff over. Take it offroad every chance they get. They arn't H2's though, they are older real hummers. I think they paid $60,000 for one, and $65,000 for the other. I think they are about 6-8 years old. More expensive used than the H2 is new, and they beat them worthless.

When did I say that everyone who didn't have the funds for an H2 was poor? Whats your point?

Yes, I understand that sometimes people just have opinions. Remember my “sometimes a cigar is just a cigar” comment? But I have to say that out of all the posts here, mine was about the least generalizing out of them all…. Yet it was the one picked to argue with? LOL

I guess I could say that since I know a few people of a given race that I can make a conclusion about ALL the people of that race? I guess that since I know some folks that own Mags, that I can make a conclusion about ALL the people who own Mags?

My point is, that either out of jealousy or any other reason, to make a broad judgment about anything using only a few examples to go by is … well, not quite right. But yeah, attacking the “jealousy” part sure draws the attention away from the fact that I was really not the one making any generalizations. You, and others were.

It’s all good…. Life goes on. And I don’t think I would stop from buying a vehicle simply because someone on an internet forum may think that by me owning it I am just like the few people they know who own them are. Because how silly would that be?
Ok, in my earlier post where I stated my opinion about the H2's, I had in parenthesis: "for the most part". What I meant, and what I should have typed was: "per my experience". I wasn't trying to generalize and say that everyone that owns an H2 is rich and elitist, but rather 100% of the people that I knew that owned an H2 (or H1 for that matter) were rich and elitist and had their hummers simply to enhance their social status. H2's dont make much sense to me. I wouldn't want to take a $50k luxury suv off road, yet that what they advertise its good for. Its true market and demographic seem to be (no generalization intended, here, Sam...) those people who have enough money to waste on off-road features simply for the sake of having them.
And when did I say that I was trying to desuade people from buying them?

My comment you alluded to above was based on my experience (tho limited it may be) involving a few people I know with hummers. They all had the same elitist attitudes and all drove the same thing.

But, yeah, Samuel, I guess I hate hummers cause they're out of my financial reach...

Sam, I've always been one to avoid an argument. My peers have always respected me for that. There are not many people on this earth that I cant get along with. On the other hand its appearant that your entire existence is based on your need to argue with and make fools of everyone with a different opinion than you. I didn't start this, you did:
And it gets to me when folks try to assign “reasons”, such as “they have low self esteem”, or “they are trying to compensate for something”, or “they are trying to impress people”, etc. to people who have things that are out of the reach of the average person.
This statement implied (whether you meant it or not) that I had some sort of childish disdain for those with more money than me. I came back, tried to explain myself, and all you can do is go on the offensive. I've seen you act this way towards everyone who has a difference of opinion. For some reason, you feel the need to try and pick apart their logic and walk all over them.

You sir, are a child. Grow up.

Okay, I haven't read all the bantering back and forth, but will speak up for the H2. They are a great 4x4. They handle off road "stuff" very well. They do the job they were built for very well. When compared to other SUVs in their price range I think they are the best. They aren't for everyone, but then what vehicle is?

All that said, I probably would NOT buy one, even if I could afford it. Why? They just cost too much money. However, I do like showing up at the paintball field in my buddies. But he has to make the payments, not me.

They are week, for 50k but a used or probably even new wrangler and turn it into an offroad machine that will eat a hummer alive.

I have been told by mechanics that the H2 has one of the worst, if not THE worst, service records of any new suv release. it isnt a quality vehicle at all, its a frankentruck. put together in a hurry and doesnt live up to its expectation.

I, for one, have seen these suckers on the trail.

End result? One guy wrapped a step rail around his fender. Another ripped the rail off entirely.

Its articulation on the trail is seriously lacking. It's WAY too wide.

The only really good design idea was that all the tender underbelly parts are either hidden up above the frame rails/crossmembers or under a plate of metal.

They will figure it out once the hype dies down. Research a car through its maker and you will find out things you wouldnt want to know about your ride.

As far as off-road performance, the center of gravity is way to high for anything other than an unpaved driveway or a fire road.
