I got some nasty popups with IE a while back, couldnt remove them for the life of me, dang spyware. So I just switched to Mozilla Firebird.
Check your add/remove programs thing under your control panel, then in your Program Files directory to see if there is anything that doesnt belong. This spyware crap is starting to get to be a real pain in the butt, Im bout ready to switch over to Linux for good.
