I swear to god, the constant stream of idiocy, impatience, ignorance and irritation just drove me up the wall and I put in my 2 weeks notice.

That's it for me. Never again.

im 14, and i work at a grocery store

i put down days that i NEED off for one reason or another, but my boss repeatedly schedules me for the days i need off, but off on the days that i don't need off on... i've talked to the owner of the store, he fixes the schedule at times, but it always happens the next week... oh well


its money! and that money bought me each and every gun in my signature

Where did you work retail?

I worked at Kmart for a year... didn't think it was too bad until I got a new job... at ShopKo. Then I realized how crappy that job really was. Pushing carts all day, carrying heavy crap for stupid people only to have the managers hire people to get paid more then you, and promoted faster...

Oh well... ShopKo isn't too bad. Instead of working the sales floor I unload the truck. Isn't as glamorous, but sure as hell is alot more fun. The group of guys I work with are fun, all we do is listen to music, talk about the hot chicks that work there, and occasionally get a 1700 piece truck done.

I'll probably realize how much I hate this job after I leave it... Or in 2 weeks when they start blaring christmas music non-stop on the muzak...

I hate christmass music in stores, and I don't even work in one. That sounds like a good job though, unloading the trucks.

It's really not the job itself that sucks. We have a great crew of guys/gals that work there. No stupid managers who piss you off by doing this or that.

What's driving me to insanity are the freeking customers.

I live in a pretty upper-class area in downtown of my city. Just to give you a feel, Bill Gates doesn't lives a 10 minute drive from where I work.

The Clientel there consists of rich business and old people. The rich people (generally) are ******** who've probably never set foot in a retail store wearing a uniform. Their wives are even worse. The kinds of questions you get from the old people are in a category of their own.

Is it just me, or do the commercials that are displayed from retail stores (WalMart, Staples, Office Depot) disillusion people into believing that they're the most important thing that's ever happened since 9-11? I mean, seriously, the things I've been asked to do in that store are incredible.

Oh I've been there...

Them: "I want every late charge removed now!"

Me: "I cant do that, you've been late many times over the last 3 years, and we took off 3 charges last month."

Them: "I'm never shopping with you guys again! This is the worst customer service ever!"

Me: (really calm and polite, pisses them off even more) "Okay, anything else I can do for you?"

Thats the job. Thats why they pay you crappy money and expect you to quit. Our 100 person customer service department would lose over 30 people a year.

I worked at Kmart when they declared their bankruptcy... I swear, that just made people come in with a bad attitude. EVERY time someone asked for something that was out of stock, they ended their comment with "THIS is why you guys are going out of business"... Yes, your right. Because we didn't have that 12 pack of toilet paper, THAT is why Kmart declared bankruptcy. If only we were able to provide you with that 12 pack of charmin, I might get to keep my job (The store I worked at is still open, with no closing in site)...

But yeah. They have me do sales floor at ShopKo every now and then. Isn't as bad as the K (mainly because ShopKo has like 1/3 the people shop there!), you just can't let that get to you. Or find a better job, because seriously, working retail sucks. Or so my friends tell me...

I dunno, I wanna work at the customer service department at Fry's. Nothing like getting paid to stand around and do nothing. I was there a week ago returning a camera adn there was literally 10 people on the clock just standing around in the returns department just talking while this one girl was helping a whole line of people. That's the way it is with that whole store. Just tons of people standing around not even helping customers. Seems like a good job to me
