    Teach for America

I have a friend who is teaching in some extremely poor town in Louisiana I think, and she's taking part in a program called teach for America. Basically, she's teaching a bunch of poor, uneducated kids and half of them don't even have families.

These kids are about my age, 14 and 15, and apparently hate writing. She was asking me about some writing assignments that I've done this year and how my teacher convinced me to do them, and get motivated and stuff. All I could really say is that she would tell us, and I would do it just because I want to keep my grades up. Of course that didn't help.

So what I'm asking is, do any of you know of any ways to motivate 14 year olds in to writing some? You've got to remember that this is an extremely poor town, and all of the kids are pretty dumb.

Put them under the delusion that you care about what they have to say, or that what they have to say is in any way interesting or worthwhile.

      Threaten them.

Make it fun for them. Find something different & entertaining instead of the normal mundane crap that you've gotta write about..

(Hard to articulate this early in the morning..blarg)
I'm way too old for this ****.
