question about what you learned about other countries in highschool

ok im not sure if its just me of the highschool i went to or the fact that im pulling an all nighter but heres my question

i was talking to some people from australia and south africa and i realized how so little i know about those countries or countinants for that matter

then i looked back to what i learned in highschool and to be honest it was only about us (america) and them (europe) i took all required courses to and even our special courses we had were all about us or them... nothing in our school looked at africa except we got our slaves there or asia thats what columbus thought he found or australia just some place down there

well im just ranting on how our school system only taught us about america and europe and nothing else in our tiny world

I learned about the history of most countries, that was in higher level courses though.

We learn about everywhere, I'm taking a class on Middle Eastern history next semester.

I had a Black World History teacher and all we were taught was Africa the whole year!

I had a very lack luster high school education, so bad I thought that Antwerp was in Russia when I was 16. Thankfully my own self-will changed that.

Goes a lot to say that I believe half of fifth graders tested could not point out the US on a map.

Our history for so long was always written in the use versus them type of nonsense. Thankfully some historians are changing that and telling both sides equally and allowing you to judge for yourself. Some call it revisionist history, I call it good history.

well i was just seeing if it was just me and the highschool that i went to that didnt teach us anything abaout the world except europe and america.... the funny thing is i like history and learning about other places i learn more about other countries when i waatch "wild on E" at night when the hotties are on lol

oh well i got to learn a little about newzealand the other day

In my world history class last year, we focused on four civilizations: Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Western. We went into other topics too, but the focus was on those four.
