Collegeboy, I have not turned into anyone. I hope you didnt take my sentiments too hard but sometimes I like to stand up for what I believe is right. In these times, we really dont need president bashing and whatnot. What we need to do is to join together and help our president battle these insurgents that want to kill us and all we stand for. If you dont like what we stand for then move to another country that you do like. Thats all I am saying. Nothing personal. Guys are dying right now. Thanks so much for your support. You ARE the minority on this issue so keep bucking the system...you will surely go far in life. And you can thank your "best President Ever" Clinton for allowing us to let our guard down. Thats why 2500+ died on 9/11. Why didnt he fix Harlem instead of just moving in there? You think he likes it there now? Same horrible place it has always been. He did nothing to help this country. Actually, I don't constantly praise our right to free speech. As much as I love the right and would fight to protect it I think that too many people use it as an excuse to spread hate. I do not expect everybody to agree with the government, administration, or me. There is a difference between disagreement and dissent and full blown hate speech designed to incite and further radical agendas.

Plus, frankly, if people cherish the free speech so much then they can stop giving me crap for disagreeing with them. I'm tired of people saying what they want and then claiming that I'm not allowed to say anything contradictory because they have the right to free speech. Well, so do I, and I plan to use it to shout them down.

Don't listen to your teachers, they hate the act because their unions tell them to.

Actually, no, that's not it. Both my parents are retired public high school teachers. They cared about the kids, and from what they say (if they didn't like what the union told them to do, they wouldn't do it. same stubborn streak runs strong in me), the no child left behind act is good in what it WANTS to do, but how it goes about doing it is flawed. I'm not well versed on the act or anything, but there's a difference between intent and actual action. I applaud the effort to allow ALL our children to have a high quality education. What I have against it, though, is HOW the states are going about doing it.

Also note, the federal government can ONLY GIVE MONEY to states for education. That's as far of a reach as the federal government has in the way of education. It says RIGHT in the constitution that education is the perview of the states. You have a beef with public education, then don't blame or cry to the federal government, b/c they can only give money to the states for education, they can't take money away or dictate where the money goes inside of education. If public education in your state is screwed up then it's the STATE's fault, NOT the federal government's. That is a proven and undeniable fact, that would even be upheld in the supreme court.

Bush couldn't close down schools even if he wanted to. He has no authority to do so. He can ask the governors to do so, but they don't have to obey him, since education is THEIR realm, not the President's.

No, the speech is very important. Actually, it will go down as one of the more important speeches he's given. It's even gotten a fairly good reaction from the British press and parliment, no small feet.

Go to France, Why, because I love my country and hate for it to be destroyed by one man. This country is greater then one man, it is greater then the government at this time. It is a salad of minorities and majorities all together with differing cultures all working together to make this country progress.
