Today was the last day before the start of the Thanksgiving holiday, so alot of students and teachers were not in attendence. I went to my first class today and half of the class isn't there, my Professor was out sick but had some other instructor else write the questions for the quiz on the board. We were unsupervised for the quiz and could leave after we handed it in. Alot of people had all ready left when I was still working on mine, and this kid that has nothing useful to say in class, blatantly sleeps during class, and doesn't read the assigned readings in the syllabus takes someone elses quiz and starts to copy their answers. I out right said "Are you *POOF* serious?!" and he was all like, 'well its not like i'm copying it word for word'. I backed it up that you shouldn't benefit from other people that actually do their work, and that she drops the two lowest quiz grades (since he doesn't read, he probably failed most of them). Then he tries to rationalize it by saying "its not affecting your grade" , i think at that point i gave him a real nasty look. If i wanted to i can report him to the instructor and he would get an "XF" on his transcript which means he failed the course due to cheating. Earlier in the semester this kid tried to cheat off of me during a quiz and i spoke to my instructor about, so if i did mention this to her i bet she wouldn't be surprised. Seriously how stupid can you be that you would blatantly cheat like that and think that no one would say a word about it, heck most of the people didn't do the readings and made up some kind of answers or didn't bother handing in a quiz.

I'm in my third year, and since I've been out of highschool I have yet to actually deal personally with anyone cheating.
Although, a little over a year ago, a university near me expelled 40 students caught plagiarizing -maybe the message got through here.
And its not like down the road you won't be screwed for not knowing something you should. He was just digging his own grave.Comment

I used to pass around source code, cuz I was a cool guy.
But blatant cheating like that, that's ridiculous. As far as homework goes, I don't see what the problem is because you just screw yourself if you don't have it together when the test comes around...
The A students are some of the best cheaters around...

At my high school it was very well known that a group of about 6 guys in my honors classes cheated regularly. But no one ever did anything about it.
In college I've found some stuff is pretty common. For example in both of my physics classes people put equations on their ti-83's all the time. They justify it to themselves because the professors usually only give you the most basic equations possible, and expect you to go through a dozen steps to get to the equation you need. So far I have yet to do that. I just don't care about my grades enough :-/ I'll take a legit B over a cheating A. It just doesn't mean much to me.
I have yet to see any other forms of cheating. Mostly because I don't go to class often, the classes I do go to are better structured (smaller discussion-sized classes), and because I think a lot of people who would cheat in highschool simply drop out of college or never show up (i.e. fail).
At the end of the day I doubt I would do anything if I saw someone cheating. It's their problem, and they'll get caught/fail at life some day.Comment

Personally, I've cheated only once or twice in my life in school, and that was during my 10th grade year in HS. I didn't get caught, but I felt guilty about it afterwards. Never did it again. I'd rather get credit for what I DID, not what someone else did.POG Member #919

I can't remember what class it was, but they required the memory to be dumped out. So, I made a fake menu with a fake mem delete button.Originally posted by Restola

I wasn't about to lose the programs I wrote on it...

for me, it goes like this:
1. Person asks me if they can cheat off me
2. If class is weighted, say no (go to step 5)
3. if not, say sure
4. let them copy whatever they want
5. watch said person fail the final because they know nothing
6. evil smile
Also, miscue, that is the smartest thing i hae heard in a while, im going to have to do that on my TI-86

Cheating is wrong. That definitionaly makes it immoral.
I would report him.
But not just because cheating is wrong, mostly just to cause misery. I'm a big fan of misery.Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - TygerComment

I don't see how it's immoral though. It's clearly unethical."What we have to accomplish at this time is all the more clear: relentless criticism of all existing conditions, relentless in the sense that the criticism is not afraid of its findings and just as little afraid of the conflict with the powers that be."
