I find this rather interesting topic to talk about. So cheating your way through school is no big deal and it hurts no one else ??

OK think about this, Almost every one on the board would pitch a fit if someone was video taped playing on or wiping a hit or anything along those lines... Who is that any different than cheating on a test ?

As for needing to do 3hrsa of home work a night So what ? Get off your *** and turn off the idiot box and stop reading forums until your work is done. I have a lot of kids that work for me and they have BLOCK classes where they get a good bit of home work for each class but the have a few days to do it. If you have good study habit you can get it done in no time. But lamers that have managed to cheat there way through lower levels of school start to flounder in high school because they DONT have those study habits to make it.

Part of it is the fault of the teachers and lots of it is to be blamed on a rather corrupt morals of people these days.

"So what if I cheat, everyone else does it"
" I am not hurting anyone else by doing it"

Its all bullcrap to make yourself feel like its ok to do it and you know its not. If you don't feel guilty about it I hope you never feel bad when someone cheats you out of something down the road...

There is a reason its called cheating, there is a reason its called immoral and unethical. ITS WRONG

If it was me, I'd report him annomously... I've been caught too many times telling on people, and a nark is NOT a good label to have painted across your forehead

If I caught one of my classmates cheating and the prof didn't catch him (or her. most likely 'him' due to the fact that 8 out of every 10 people here are male. we're deprived of females here), then after class, I'd go to the prof's office and tell them straight about it. I have NO problems turning in cheaters. Here at ERAU, it's no bad thing to turn in a cheater if you catch him. Heck, if alot of people saw him do it, there'd probably be a near mad mod heading to the prof to get the guy's butt written up. We all work our BUTTS off here, so why should we tolerate someone who won't do their own work and still get credit for it!

[edit] here at ERAU, if you turn in the cheater, whether anonymously or not, you don't get the label of 'nark', but rather the cheater gets the label of "worthless piece of sh**"[/edit]

Please tell me you're kidding? The two are totally different: Cheating on a test affects no one but the cheater whereas wiping affect both teams.

But you deserve to have it painted across your forehead...

I can't stand rats myself. I do what I have to do to pass a class and get my 2.0 gpa and usually that doesn't involve cheating. I've never been ratted out but I sure would be pissed if I was.

I dont know if I'd turn him in. He probably should be turned in, but I probably wouldn't do it. In most of my classes, the grades are scaled at the end. He is cheating to raise his average, and that raises the class average. Then it will be harder for you to get a higher grade. So he is affecting you in a negative way. Even if the class isn't scaled. His higher grade might lower your class rank. That isn't good.

As far as checking the source code for stuff. They run it through a series of programs that compare all the different submissions. It works pretty well too. The professors require you to put plenty of comments in your code. Just so they know what you were trying to do.

except the fact that MANY tests in college are curved. Therefore, him moving up (possibly ahead of you) brings your grade DOWN. Id say that hurts you....that is....if you give a <B>*POOF*</B>

cheating is wrong. Theres a reason its called CHEATING for christ's sake.

being an honest person does not mean you are "nark", cheaters and dishonest people give people that name because they know that eventually an honest person will say something about their cheating/dishonesty. i'd rather be labeled that than a "worthless piece of crap" like sir brass said who cannot achieve anything on their own.

as for the curve on tests, i've been fortunate enough and not encountered that during regular univesity or community college. some professors and schools do see that as a disadvantage to students, and therefore can bring the professors performance average for the course down which makes them look bad.

I'm not a cheater or a dishonest person but I called him a nark.

That's true, but most tests aren't graded on a curve.

Well, when tests are designed to kill ya and average grades are 40-60%... a curve is good to have.

or the class could be 'blocked' in which case everyone is normalized together.....meaning you're final grade is based on all te other people in the class

college is much more of ranking type system than in high school.....

graphing calculators are required by many classes simply because they CAN be programmed...

my high school math teachers taught us to write programs to make it faster to do the work, after we understood the meaning of the different parts of the equation.

just because you have it in there, doesn't mean you know how to use it.

I had a bunch of programs that would do physics, calc, geometry, statics, etc... all were basic functions of a tool required for classes... some calculators even have the stuff standard... you just gotta know where to find it.

On the subject of making the calculator seem like its been wiped, that's easy... i did it to convince a teacher in high school that i removed all the games i had on mine, like Tetris, solitaire, etc...

just create a program that displays the same text as your calc does standard when you clear it, in the middle of the screen... something like "Memory Cleared"... then insert a pause command... when you hit enter, the program ends...

if you're really fancy, draw the screen in graph mode and then display that first... animate the button, repeat...

academic dishonesty is rampant... papers get copied all the time, and design projects at my school have as well... last dude that got caught wasn't expelled, but was "convinced" not to return the next term.

i think you only hurt yourself by doing it at college level, since if you don't know it when you graduate you're screwed in the real world... but at the high school level you definitely hurt others, since you're competing for positions, scholarships, etc at colleges... you may take the place of an honest student who didn't get a perfect GPA.

All most 1 1/2 of post before ROBAGD sees the scary thing that I see, and why I dont play as much as I use to or want to. The amount of cheating going on. If you have the belief that cheating in school then it is a small leap to the paintball field. The lack of work ethics in school equates to work ethics on the field. You been playing for years have a great gun and somebody long balls you or works the back side and the first thing you do is wipe. And yes Carnifex they are the same thig. If you will do you will most assuredly do the other. It all comes down to the character of the person.
Well that was just my 2+ cents worth

Do you know what cheaters are called when they leave the world of acadameia? Your boss. Cheaters are effecient, they take credit for others work, and the organize their time to their own maximum benifit. Right or wrong is beside the point. The reality is, you'll work for a cheater, or you will learn to cheat.
