"Timeline" - yeah, the movie

Okay, I read the book 2 or 3 years ago. It's by Michael Crichton (derr, butchered that name...) so obviously it's at least decent. I thought the book was fairly good, but not amazing, because it didn't completely stick with me.

Saw the movie today... the book made so much more sense now. LOL Again though, the movie wasn't AMAZING... but I'm definitely not dissapointed I saw it.

Anybody else see it? Opinions?

I thought it was really good. The story was GREAT, im not so sure about some of the acting, but it had its cool parts, and the STORY WAS GREAT, did you hear that? the story was GREAT

Watching the trailer made me want to puke. Timeline is my favorite Crichton novel, I've read it nearly a dozen times. They changed so damn much (based on a critique article I read and interviews with the director) that its hardly the same story.

But I'm sure I'll go see it because...its Crichton.

Dude.....I'm getting close to reading all of his novels, and so far the list goes like this...
1. Prey
2. Timeline
3. Sphere
4. Airframe
5. Congo (Worst book evar, I don't think he was thinking straight when he wrote it)

The first part of Timeline totally swept passed me, especially the part that explained the whole quantem physics thing. I read over those pages like 10 times and I still don't get it. Prey is an awesome book though. Are there many authors out there that are a lot like Crichton? I need to find someone new since I'm getting close to finishing his works.

Im worried about the movie. One of my favorite parts of the book was how he explained the technology. I thought the plot was absolutely ridiculous (going back in time to make a more realistic amusement park????). And I heard the movie glosses over the technology and focuses on the plot. Not good.

I wont pretend to really understand it, but what the book says is an infinite number of universes exist side by side (there is some real world evidence for this, like the slit experiment, which is discussed while the characters are on the airplane). At sub-atomic levels space is uneven, and so ITC figured out how to send information through to the parallel universes. Because of the power of quantum computers, which the scientists managed to build in the book, they can record all the information that makes a human.

Try reading the introduction. It's pretty interesting and talks about some of this stuff. Also the Scientific References in the bibliography can send you to some cool reading.

Nova did a really interesting show about string theory also, which is related to this somehow (again, I dont really understand it).

1. Prey - awsome book. absolutely awsome
2. Timeline - best book yet
3. Sphere - blows the movie away, very good
4. Airframe - very good book, easily #2
5. Congo - eh, not bad

Oh and don't read travels (an autobiography of sorts). It made me think he was a nut.

And if you haven't read Jurassic Park, read it, its good.

I've read all his stuff a few times. And since there is no way Crichton can keep up with me, I started reading Grisham and Clancy. Rainbow Six was very good. Also the Street Lawyer, The Bretheren, The Firm were all very good.

Paul Walker ruined it.
it would have been alot better if Paul wasnt in it,
he has no emotions,
but im glad he wasnt the main character,
actually there wasnt realy a main character

well i didn't see it and i won't because they butchered the book....horribly....if you read it and see the previews you would know.

I read the book (I thought it was pretty good). I'm planning on going to see the movie tomorrow.

The technology is glossed over for sure, but no, they did not go back in time to make an amusement park...

If paul walker was the fast and the furious guy, yeah, he was the character I had my problems with

Ive read all of Chrichton's books other than: 5 Patients, Travels, and Jasper Johns (something like that). The movie looks like it really did stray from the plot a lot, but still sorta cool.

Somewhat odd though, although Crichton is my favorite author, my top 3 books arent written by him.
Favorite books:
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. Awesome novel, although pretty damn long.
Black Hawk Down. Dont recall the author but its a great book.
Rainbow Six by Clancy. Good good stuff.

Derr... nope.

YES, Jurassic Park was an amazing book... I read it after I had seen the movie (several times), and it was still really really good.

I also read the book first... which made the movie totaly SUCK. Nice action scenes + crappy acting + butchered story line = waste of $8.25

Oh well, it was worth it to see some dude get stuck with a few burning arrows.

ive been a stephenson fan for a lond time. have you read any of his other stuff? i.e. snow crash, my favorite book of all time? i just started quicksilver, looking forward to finishing it over christmas break.
