        Are taxes a necessity?
        yes.

Should they be as high as they are?
        no.

There are a lot of things that can be cleaned up to lower the amount of taxes burdened on the tax payers...

We aren't citizens anymore... we're now referred to as "the taxpayers." like the folks in congress are doing US a favor!!! Tax cuts are the way of the future. We need a government who is willing to step in and refine these large tax burdens like Welfare and the like. Is welfare needed... yes, to an extent. It is needed to those who NEED it... not those who WANT it... need and want have been mixed too much in this day and age. We need to find ways of screening who get's the money. We need to make people get jobs and earn their own living... Get off your ***, quit smoking the ganja, and get a job, hippy!!!!

Simple. Let private organizations collect donations. They would have to show how they spend that money, and show results, or the money would go elsewhere.

The government has no incentive to work better, and never will.

So CB why should you try and earn $200 if you know 100 will be taxed from you? If this happens then you are correct that the wage looks good I make 4x the guy that makes $50 but I only take home 2x that. So why not work less so I make only 50 and only get taxed only the 3 dollars?

I give up collegeboy. You don't seem to understand a word any of us are saying. You also don't really have a good understanding of how economics work. people won't work for less just to be "nice". I earned every dollar I made and I'll be damned if I want it to be taken from me without my consent.

The numbers would be higher on your end but anyways. Because you will still make higher then you would without welfare. What incentive would you have to go 10 years to become a doctor if in the end you will get paid the same as the guy working construction right out of high school?

Python, I am sorry that you have failed to grasp the simple ideas of economics that I have put forward. People to this day still work and strive for the higher paying jobs while realizing the tax burden they will have to share.

CollegeBoy where did you grow up? Did you grow up in a nice 5 bedroom home in the securities of suburbia? Or did you grow up in a small *** trailor with nothing but welfare checks to keep food on the table for the first 3 years of your life?

Im guessing that you didn't. Yes, my family was poor once, dirt poor. Dad worked his butt off in horrible conditions of Tyler Pipe 12-14 hr days for next to nothing, but he wanted more for me, not living like that forever. So you know what he did? He decided to change the way he lived, which most people can't realize that they can do. He worked AND went to college at the same damn time, got himself a degree in Medical Technology and look what we have now. A house paid for, 5 cars(three paid for), no credit card debt, just peachy now, he even somehow got me and my sister a college fund. While at the same time I look back at the trailor park and I still see the same people getting those welfare checks that probably my dad is paying for now through taxes. I am very thankful for what he did.

Its not a matter of people getting welfare checks, its what they need to do with it. There are too many freeloaders in the USA today and if that doesnt change then it will ultimately be the end of our way of life now. People can get out of poverty and live better, if only they get educated, if they stay away from drugs and over spending.

I grew up in a 20 year old trailer that was in pieces with a disabled father that could not work and a mother who worked 20+ years for the US government yet only made 18,000 a year. My father brought home very small retirement check of about 800 or so a month.

You fail to realize that these people at the bottom will not want to stay there all the time. They will want to better themselves, but to do so, they need help in surviving while they are at the bottom, without that help they will be forever stranded at the bottom slowly dieing from not having enough to survive.

There are more people who use the system to better themselves then there are who are freeloading on the system.

No reasonable person is opposed to helping others. Our difference is just who should do the help.

Should the government take money from some people and give it to others. Or should the people decide (through private organizations who are accountable for their actions) who needs assistence.

The people will never provide enough to help those who need it, they didn't do it in the past, they will not do it now.

Unreal, what reality do you inhabit? It sure isn't the one the rest of us do.

If by reality you mean that dank place where you store your head, then yes.

If you mean reality where the rest of us live, you need to visit it sometime.
