    Custom Fiberglass Work

How hard would it be for me to do my own fiberglass work for a car? I saw a website that has a video on how to do it and all the materials.

Would I be better off finding someone who does it professionally or is it something that is so easy that no one bothers to do it professionally?

I'm pretty sure miscue does it so maybe you can help me out.

What were you thinking of doing? Is it some kind of repair work? b/c for that theres this stuff called bondo, that works really good for filling in dents and what not

I don't think bondo works too well on fiberglass. I don't think that it is too hard to do.

i bet you could build a pretty cool tank outa fiberglass(pb) or maybe a nice mech suit for the next scenario game, fiber glass does take a skill to do but im sure if you try you can do it

Bondo and Fiberglass go hand in hand. What works nice to get out the little nicks is claw glaze. And what kinda fiber glass work you doing....? Like making a kit for you car cause if you are going to try and do that I suggest paying some one.

Hey i did my own sub enclosure for 2 10s over the summer. took about a week doing 2 layers per day. Its quite simple and once you start. Opposed to what argnot says i would do it yourself because i find it not worth the money to spend hundreds, maybe a 1000 for someone to do something that looks alot harder then it actually is and will end up costing less than 100 (total materials for me cost around 75-80).

                Was wondering the same thing.

I plan on doing, dash board, some parts of the door panel (interior), and pick pods. If all that goes well I'll move on to other parts of the car.

I would think that making two parts that should be identicle would be hard to make look them same. For example the kick pods need to be the same but I can't just use a template because the left and right are opposite.

Sorry if I overlooked some obvious solution.

Edit: Also how smotth does it come out? I want it to be smooth as glass and painted gloss black.

ALso, why does everyone put "edit:" in front of stuff they edit. I personally do it so I look smart when I don't post another reply. It's my only chance to shine.

                      HAHAHAHA!!!

I WISH I OWNED A NSX!!! I definitely will in the future, even if it means killing someone.

Right now I own a Mazda RX7, I'm only adding the hood to shave off some weight to make up for a future mod (*cough* turbo-II engine swap *cough*)

Hope you enjoy that site, some stranger I met at the D-1 Grand Prix told me about it

                        RX-7 is still nice.

What engine are you swaping for? I figured rotarys would be hard to swap.

I'm shopping for a black CRX 88 or 89 to do an engine swap to a b18c type r. Bah once I get the car I got alot of work to do, it's depressing. Anyway good luck with your hood.

I can see my self never leaveing this site. The learning center has so much info I'll never get it all.

A quick question for anyone who may know: Can I use my existing dash board as the plug for a mold?

www.imagedump.com will host you. Just register and post to your hearts content.

I may ask for step-by-step (nicely) but right now I think I found a person near me who will do it cheap. Just gotta be sure that they know what they are doing.

If I can't do it myself can I pay you to do it? I can maybe like send you the dash board or soemthing and you can make the mold out of that. I don't know if maybe you could just find the dimensions of it.

Anyway, I'll let you know where I stand later.

Also I heard on the forums on www.fibreglast.com that a painted dash looks like fiber glass but acctually has no fiberglass in it.

Thanks for all the hlep guys, really don't know what I'd do without my daily dose of automags.org!!

I'm a little tired right now, it's 5 am and i just got off work, but I'll post some pics later on...

And that is correct, small and or detailed fiberglass work doesn't have actuall fiberglass, it's a little more then fiberglass resin and some high quality bondo.

Infact, Anything you might have planned for your car can be done with as little as 30$ resin is CHEAP depending on the framework and alot of sand paper you can pry do it with a 20$ spot.

It's REALLY not that tough, it's just that resin is messy and toxic and the amount of sanding is unreal, that's how you can tell how good someone is, how well sanded something is....
