Need Historical Help!

I need to find issues from the 1970's that still reflect today.

What I have:

1 Oil War
2 Government Conspiracy


and I need a current example of a conspiracy.

If you have seen Three Days of the Condor that would be great if you could relate it to the movie.

If you want a modern conspiracy to talk about there are a few choices. None of them are die hard proven cases and allow for argueing on both sides.


1) Hillary Clinton's assertion that there is a vast right wing conspiracy against her

2) The Republican's claim that the left wing biased media deliberatly called some states early (like florida) during the 2000 election to keep Republican voters at home and away from the polls.

3) The left's claim that George Bush went to war solely to benefit the oil industry and that he lied from the beginning about that reasons for war.

4) The Right's claim that the Democrat's in the select intelligence committee are intentionally leaking sensitive material to undermine the confidence of the American public in the President.

There are always others, but these are some of my favorites.

The greatest conspiracy theory of that decade IMO, other then Vietnam, would be the idea that Ronald Regan made a deal with the Iranian government to forgo the release of the hostages until election day for future add towards Iran.

1973 1)the start of the EU with GB, Ireland and Denmark (well not really the EU but the first steps towards it. 2) Yom Kimpur conflict begins. 3) Spiro Agnew resigned

1974, Nixon Resigned (hey one can wish )

1978, Sadat and Begin sign peace treaties.

1979, Pol Pot regime is toppled in Cambodia., Shah Leaves Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini takes over, Soviet invasion of Afghanistan starts (the world protest it)

Formation of the PLO was in the early '70's, IIRC. It's basically an umbrella organization encompassing several Palestinian groups, including Arafat's Fatah.

Civil war in Zimbabwe/Rhodesia. After effects are still being felt there. The former rebel leader is still in power, and has begun in the past few years a nasty campaign of oppression. First against white minority farmers, and then against black opposition politicians. In the past few years they have turned from a food-exporting country to a land of famine. They have been suspended from the British Commonwealth, and announced that they are quitting the organization.

I think the civil war in Sri Lanka began then, too. It is still going on.

And the civil war in Lebanon, which lasted in to the late 80's. I think that's mostly sorted out, now though.

AIDS was first noticed in the late 1970's.
