i can count that list on my right hand....and they're getting a piece of the pie. over 60 countries have access to contracts w/i iraq.

however, i see it both ways, the countries that didn't help shoulnd't get a piece, but at some point you have to ask, whats more valuable: being arrogant about the past or being the bigger man and helping foster a positive future with all nations?

It is weird that Canada is on the list but your investment to help rebuild was $200 mil and I think some troops against our Billions so you should get a small Slice. If that 200 mil was Canadan it would be 158,912,063.565 US Dollars

they can still sub contract. someone needs to tell these euros not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

if we put the restriction on contract winners must have the support of their country in the form of troops on the ground, that might get either more forign troops or less forign complaining. but there is no pleasing the french anyway so why bother.

I don't think that's what he meant. It looked like he was sayong that other countries gave us monies to rebuild after events in the US.

          could be wrong.

Why should companies suffer because of the actions of their governments? Say you own a construction company in france and supported the war. Why is it that you should suffer simply because of actions taken by your government? No matter who does the work, the money for it will all come from the same source. Why not use he most qualified contractors to do it. Whether they be from the US or France or even Uganda for that matter. It shouldnt make a difference.

although i disagree with the a few of the reasons we went in the war, this is a fair way to redistribute the work/money. Although if countries became more supranational like the EU, this world might be a better place, but who knows it is all speculation.

                        curly,

why not? because the money will go to the contractor, which will go to the french people and be taxed by the french government...thus money coming from the american tax payers and the US gvnt going to the french gvnt. the administration doesnt want to do that--for better or worse.

I certainly see that they dont DESERVE the right to win contracts, and that we should reward countries that helped us with those contracts, however I think we have to step past that and act as teh better man here and try and convince france and germany in particular to help us out and work with us--not against us. As long as they are allies in paper, they can't be on the other side

For those who were against the war, yes it was. B/c with our war for humanitarian reaons, they lost money b/c they had under-the-table deals with Iraq. For them, it was about money. NOT for the U.S.
